IMO, this is part of the issue we have a society that has, in essence, turned the responsibility of parenting over to the schools. We as a society must determine where the dividing lines are between teaching our children and raising our children. Think about that for a minute. Do you really want the education system teaching morals to your children? I don't know about many of you, but I wanted my children taught morals and what is right and wrong at home and not from someone else. All this crap will stop when you put your foot down. Ask questions of your elected officials. See if they believe in the same things you do. If they don't get rid of them. If you don't ask, then shame on you. All of this will stop when we want to stop.

Thanked: 586This has nothing at all to do with schools teaching morals. This is all about two kids with guns and alot of bullets waltzing unfettered through a Colorado high school ten years ago. We ask the government to keep our children safe while they are in school. The guide lines have been adjusted ten thousand times and will be re-adjusted ten thousand times more. The school systems in many communities are on total lockdown. We want our kids safe. But when it is our kid who is caught up in some wierd snag, we are the first to complain that there are impositions on civil rights.
I heard something about an entire busload of kids that got shaken down, some strip searched because one kid who was on the bus said he saw some kids with pills. I don't know which side I come down on but I know if one kid on that bus died from an overdose of something that day, the school system would have been in the grinder.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
-Ben Franklin
when I was in high school a lot of the students were armed. mostly with knives and such, but a few with guns. it never really bothered me. i guess i figured if one kid went nuts all the other kids might have a better chance stopping them than waiting an hour for the police to get there.

This is how I see it also. Heck when I as in school (a long time ago) we had a cop assigned to the school. Now I imagine it is SOP. They should have every right to detain her and contact her mother then the authorities. If it comes to that the authorities can search her. Anything more than searching her locker, her bags/purse, jacket, etc and having her turn out her pockets is way out of line.
