I don't think pop charts have alot to do with actual worldwide popularity. I doubt there are many orchestras perfoming covers of any Brittney Spears' tunes. I doubt anyone will be attending any Brittney Spears' concerts 200 years from her death. I agree with you that the average person (certainly the average American) has the mental agility of a large ashtray but I don't believe that the majority of all humanity since Mozart's lifetime would prefer to listen to the music of Brittney Spears over that of W. A. Mozart.
    But I could be wrong.

I've been summoned twice but have never made it to the selection stage.

I think jury duty is a cornerstone of democracy. I've question whether one can fully participate if they are not qualified to serve on a jury.

Out here, you can check a box that says "No hablo...", and you are automatically excused from duty.

Well in England, the juror will probably not have to face the parking problems.
Most towns ban traffic now days and you have to Park and Ride to get near to the courthouse. That is if you can afford the petrol for your car to get to the Park and Ride.

As for food at lunchtime, well you've never been able to eat in towns in England. That's common knowledge.

So there you have it. A completely different set of issues face the English Juror.

But in answer to the question "Did I ever spend time on jury service?" The answer is no. I think the rule is that you have to have been on a local register for so many years before your name goes in the hat. I've moved to many times to qualify as yet.

But I do know how to use a Park and Ride and pack my lunch in a box..
