what's the big deal? i was able to buy rubbers without a prescription when i was way younger than 17 and no one cared. seems to me this is just leveling the playing field a bit and giving girls an option, too.
should i ever have a daughter, my wife and i will have "the talk" with her WAY before 17. i'm thinking 13 or 14 is more like it. i got "the talk" in fifth grade from the school. i was 10. by the time i was 13 i'd gotten more education about VD, safe sex and birth control than most adults had 20 years prior. and it's an ever-growing field.
i just wish they'd had the shot back when my wife and i were younger, would've made life a lot easier. if i have a daughter, i'd let her start taking the shot as soon as she wants to, pending doctor approval.

Thankfully I have two boys. Which puts more responsibility on them. Honestly I was a late starter 21 for me. Seriously. Stop laughing.
Education starts at home and this is just part of the education. Our grade schools here have child care facilities in them. They start at two different times in the day to allow for child care and to allow for the student body to not over crowd the schools.
If you as parents have done your jobs correctly. The decision about your daughter's body should be hers. At 13 I think that most parents can argue that the child will need parental consent or at least someone over 18, sister, aunt to at least watch them for 24 hours or so.

yes, but a condom is of little use to a girl. most of the ones i've seen were designed to be used by a guy
this way the girl can make her choice independently of the guy.
the way it works is of course different but they both have the same goal in mind: keeping you baby-free

Thanked: 52From holli4pirating: "I don't mean to be pedantic, but girls can buy condoms too. I'd also say the morning after pill is vastly different from condoms, but that is just my opinion."
I agree...the pill is not the same as a condom...
a condom means you are taking responsibility before ... the pill means whoops we just didnt want to use a condom so now ill just take this...
its actually condoning unsafe sex...Last edited by erictski; 04-24-2009 at 02:52 PM.

On the guy, yes. By the guy, could go either way. My point was that girls can prepare for safe sex before hand, just as guys can. If a girl has condoms, that's one less possible excuse for the guy. The girl can also decide not to have sex if there are no condoms available, and that is a decision she can make independently of the guy.
I have to disagree with you here. Condoms can malfunction, not to mention instances where a condom is not used and the sex is not consensual.
Would one say that condoms condone sex (of any type)?

+1 on the difference.
But I disagree with the condoning unsafe sex. For some yes, but for others it will be used as:
- Condom broke
- Oh god what did I do at that party last night
- Oh crap I forgot my pill this morning
- etc...
For those of you that do not know how the pill works, it forces the lady to have her entire period in the span of 24 - 48 hours instead of the normal week or so. If I am off on this please correct me. A weeks worth of cramping, bleeding, bloating, pain and feeling like sh**, does not in my book sound like someone is condoning sex.

I fully agree with you, with the exception of the use of the word girl. I don't mean any disrespect to girls/women here, but I see the "options" as for both the male and the female. That stems from my view that the male is equally responsible for anything that happens. I do not mean that the male should have the final say in what happens, but I don't think the female should either.
That may be moving a bit off topic, and I don't mean to jack this thread. I just feel strongly that the idea of equality has to go both ways in all situations.
