Question The H1N1 Finger Pointing Game

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

So who's to blame? Is it the Mexican government for not protecting the people with some corporate restrictions? Is it the American pig farm for not showing the leadership themselves? Is it both. This is a divisive poll, but I don't want it to be a divisive issue for us. I just want to know how we might best step forward to prevent the truly destructive pandemic of the future from wiping out millions. Should we even bother trying?

I'm going to point the finger at the Obama administration.

The W.H.O. announced today that the current strain of "Swine Flu" is no more virulent or deadly than our usual annual flu. The only added danger is that nobody is vaccinated against it.

Why does that lead me to blame the Obama administration?

    Simple.

Someone is trying to wag the dog, and it's usually someone high up, doing lots of stupid things they don't want people to watch too closely.

So the WHO bringing the world up to Level 5 on the pandemic alert index PRIOR to realizing "this isn't so bad" was all the Obama administration?

    Mmmmmm...paranoia.

Oh, and to answer the question as to how we stop a truly destructive pandemic, that's simple. We stock up on chicken soup and clear beverages.

Has anybody noticed that not a single person in any first world country has died of this, except for a 23 month old who had just come from Mexico?

This whole thing is going to be just like SARS, and "bird flu."

Numbers of people in second and third world countries will die, and the numbers will sound very bad to us living in the first world nations, because most people have no idea how many people die of the flu every year. But the reality is that few, or possibly NO people will die in any first world country, except for those highly at-risk classes who might very well have died from any flu virus, or even a severe cold.

I propose that we all start holding "swine flu" parties, at which we will eat bacon burgers, wear breathing masks (when not eating bacon burgers) and wave banners with pictures of flying pigs.

Might not be Obama. Could be the queen of England for all I know. However, it seems clear that this whole thing has been ridiculously blown out of proportion, well above and beyond any reasonable level.

The only reason to do that is to wag the dog.

edit - Just for the record, I'm not taking this thread any more seriously than the title implies. "Finger Pointing Game." But, if we're going to play the finger pointing game, that's my play. Blame it on those in power because this seems to me to be nothing more than a ridiculous attempt to distract us all from things like the economy, or the fact that Kim Jong Psycho from Pyongyang is dieing, and rapidly transitioning all power and authority to the military.

I voted end is nigh, not so much because the end is actually nigh, but because sooner or later the human population suffers from a pandemic. Pigs, birds, monkeys, doesn't matter. It would be fantasy to think the world will never again suffer a pandemic. It's nature, simple. One of Malthus' three positive checks on population growth (war, famine, disease).

But I like the idea of blaming the Queen. I mean, it's amazing how nothing ever sticks to her -- Princes Charles, William, Harry, Andrew, Philip, and Diana, Fergie etc. They've all been in the headlines for some issue or other, but the Queen... she just glides through life like teflon. I reckon David Icke was right... clearly she's an alien lizard life form taking the shape of a human and is responsible for introducing swine flu to the human population in order to remove the human species so her own can colonise the world.

i have told people the same thing when talking about the Swine Flu, Bird Flu, SARS, etc, if you keep your body healthy and you immune system functioning well then you won't get sick. this is why, as stated previously, third world countries have all the deaths, and we get a little sick. i didn't think this up, its not a new idea, but it is still very true and a point that i think most people miss when something like this comes out.

i am not worried and never was. i have never had the flu shot nor will i ever get one, my children will not be vaccinated (when i have some) and i doubt that i will have a family doctor soon. if i have an emergency, i'll go to the emergency room, which will be a rare occasion. i think doctors are GREAT and deserve all the praise we can give them, but too little responsibility is put on the individual to educate themselves and keep themselves healthy. the reason emergency rooms suck and take forever to get through is that most of the people that go there aren't sick. drugs have their time and place but for most of us it shouldn't be in everyday life.

alright my rant is done, now everyone can pick me apart

Chee, although I tend to agree with what your saying, unfortunately it just isn't true.... Most likely you are like me, and inherited a strong immune system form at least one of your parents... People like us like to believe that we are living "Right" and that 's why we rarely get sick, when everyone around us is dropping off like flies during flu and cold season every year... But trust me it has more to do with family trees then anything else...

As to finger pointing, Mother Nature doesn't like to be pointed at, ya just might really **** her off....
Personally I blame everything on the media, and we just keep feeding that freaking monster don't we....
