Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Both my parents were smokers. My father's last 15 yrs or so were blighted by emphysema and then lung cancer. My mother likewise, although she didn't suffer as much from being unable to breathe properly until the last year or so. I sat with my mother as she died. I don't give advice about the consequences of smoking. You can make up your own minds on that one.

My brother and I had sleepovers with my grandmother a lot when we were kids. My uncle still lived there, and he was a 3 pack a day guy.
Every morning when he woke up, he coughed for 10 -15 minutes before it quieted down. Even from a different floor, it sounded like he was coughing / puking his guts out, and we always half expected him to keel over and die.

I may not have an idea about the addition itself. Granted. And I have absolutely no idea what stopping is like.
But I do know the consequences of smoking itself.
