    Default Bicycle

Hey homies.. Any suggestions for getting rust off of a bicycle (Handlebars and what not)....

It gets salty at the beach.

I once accidentally got a small amount of rust remover mixed with a lot of water in a rusty old U-Lock that wouldn't open when I was cleaning an old bike and it worked like a dream. The lock was like new. I tried it on another lock later with just a bit of rust remover and no water and it siezed the lock.

So maybe 10 parts water to 1 part rust remover? Guesswork though.

    Hey David,
For general rust removal on something like a bike, or other outdoor stuff, I like naval jelly.

You can remove rust from chrome with wet aluminum foil. You just rub it on the rusty area, leaving the slurry in place until the rust is removed. Wipe down and protect with something and you are done.
I have only tried this once on a small area but it did work and I have read about it on various websites.

A wet SOS pad also works good for removing rust from chrome. Amazingly, when it's wet it won't scratch..

Admittedly this bike may have rotted away but it's not too late to save another.
I couldn't sleep last night so I started sorting threads by oldest response.
