I hate hard boiled eggs period.
They are just tolerable when peeled and filled by someone else. Otherwise: runny yolks are imperative, and runny whites are no problem whatsoever. O, and salt please. 'An egg without salt is like a kiss without a moustache' my good grandfather used to say (and the reverse too) and he was right.

Thanked: 132I agree with Oldengaerde...a hard boiled egg, is a burnt egg, in my opinion. :-)

Thanked: 278While the unshelling was impressive, did he really say boil the egg for 12 minutes?
Edit> Oh, and my usual way to make shelling eggs easy is to cool them in the pot with cold water, drain out the water then rattle the eggs around in the pan so the shells get well and truly cracked up. They peel easily enough.Last edited by Rajagra; 06-18-2009 at 10:18 PM.

Thanked: 155The real secret to pealing hard boiled eggs is to age the eggs about one week before boiling them. Fresh eggs are hard to peal, week old eggs are easy. That's it.

Thanked: 278If you have that much time, you could soak the eggs in vinegar overnight to make the shell soft:
Soft Shelled Eggs Science Experiment
I wonder if you could boil the egg in that state. Or you could boil it first, then soften the shell in vinegar. Maybe it would peel easy or you could even eat it with the softened shell intact!

Thanked: 1587I love boiled eggs. In Australia, it is considered unmanly to peel them before ingesting. You guys in the US have become so soft...

After boiling in salted vinegar water, let sit for 10 minutes. Drain, and rinse with cold water, let sit in cold water for 10 minutes.
Take an egg, dry it off, ,tap each end of the egg to crack the shell, lay the egg on a table, place your palm on the egg and roll it away from you with very gentle pressure. Start at either end of the egg, chip into a crack with a fingernail, pull up a piece of the shell and start peeling....I have been able to remove the entire shell from an egg in one long strip (shell attached to the inner membrane).
