Thanked: 586My Friends Are Bigger Than Your Friends
I am a very lucky guy. I have some talents that make folks happy but I also have the coolest pets around and a beautiful and talented girlfriend who puts up with my crap (including tedious periods of depression). I know you are all probably pretty worn out with my stories of Scarlett, Basil and Mr. Toes. However, I don't think I ever boasted about my buddy Manny.
I am very happy to be able to say that Manny Yarbrough http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/gallery/featured/GAL1000156/1/20/index.htm the World's Biggest Athlete (according to the Guinness Book of World Records) is one of my friends. I am sure you have all seen Manny in TV commercials or on the HBO series OZ, or in Sports Illustrated or on the Discovery Channel. Here are a few links but you can do your own research: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmanuel_Yarborough

Here's something we are looking forward to. Scarlett's oldest friend Beverly is dating Manny. She loves my dog and is fascinated by his athletic career. Beverly has a plan to arrange a publicity picture for Basil's portfolio. She wants to get a shot of Basil pulling Manny on a cart. He can do it. Manny weighs about 775lbs and here's a shot of Basie pulling 2100lbs:
Imagine Emmanuel "Tiny" Yarbrough on this cart instead of the blocks.

well I was gonna say something funny (my version) but after seeing his name on the harness......................
You need to hook that dog to a large truck tire.
Then race him across the yard a few times.
Work him and he'll get stronger.
Dogs are so eager to please.
That look in his eye right there is what makes a dog useful.Last edited by gratewhitehuntr; 06-24-2009 at 09:34 PM.

Thanked: 586Thanks Shaun. I have been working with Basil since he was six months old. He finished his first season 4th in the world in his weight class. Are you an expert on dog weight pulling? Are you in the IWPA? While I think we are doing pretty well, I am always happy for any info that may help. Is there something in my original post that told you I needed help? While we are off topic, let me just run this by you and see if you approve. In the winter, along with actively competing, I run Basil in deep snow for resistance training:
Behind the barn in you see above there is a 300 foot mountain I run him up. When there is no snow, he drags his tire:
He doesn't like his tire but he seems to understand. At first he was just pulling the tire but after a while he was running up the mountain like there was nothing attached to his harness. Now he is training with 40lbs of block in the tire. I am confident Basil will do very well this year, especially with you on our side.
Brad

That really is a big friend!
I don't get tired of seeing Basil, i just wish he'd stand up to to evil Mr. Toes a bit more.

I once used a dog as a work animal, I'll spare you the details.
swimming is fantastic exercise, that is my advice
go throw the ball in the lake
they'll do it for hours
and it isn't work
lots of swimming will also get a slightly fat bird dog in shape for season in about 3 weeks (fat Lab anyone?)Last edited by gratewhitehuntr; 06-24-2009 at 10:08 PM.

Brad the dog as always is beautiful, and I agree with GW, swimming is a great excercise for a dog especially now that its summer.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain
