Default couldn't help myself! Another knife thread.

Okay, some of you know I have been longing for a custom folder. Problem being most of them are way out of my price range. 350 USD and above is rather expensive for a man with a wife and 3 kids and a mortgage he can barely afford. Anyways, recently I have been more busy with work than most. The result, more change in my pocket! So, I started poking around the knife sites again. Many knives grabbed my fancy, but none grabbed my pocket book. Enter Ohta folders. I have been an admirer of Hiroaki Ohtas work for a few years now but his lowest prices have been around 400 USD, something more than I am willing to spend. Anyways, I was working in Lakeforest, about 1 and a 1/2 hours from where I live and 10 minutes from the largest cutlery store in Southern California, Plaza Cutlery. I have been wanting to visit Plaza Cutlery for the last 4 years, and finally I am in the area, so, I couldn't pass up the opportunity! When I walk in to the store I see the average fare: Bucks, Case, Spyderco, etc..
About this time I am wondering why I bothered to visit...and then I see it...the custom section! I was drooling! The store had some seriously nice knives, Many of them were Ohtas knives. One in particular grabbed my attention. It was a friction folder with carbon fiber scales and a laminated steel blade...an Ohta...for 200 dollars...can I afford it?...Do I have the money?
I waited 2 weeks, as I had to go back that way again, and when I went back, I had the money in my pocket...Here are scans and a link to a knife forum speaking on these folders: A gentleman’s Higonokami by Hiroaki Ohta - British Blades :: Custom Knife Making

    Very very nice.

I've yet to taste the fun of a friction folder but that's a very nice looking one. Very unconventional as well.

So is it VG-10 steel? My first blade in VG10 is on it's way from the states right now. How do you like it?

When I saw the knife in the sunlight it reminded me of a Koi, the way the carbon fiber played in the sunlight. My ex wife on the other hand thought it looked like the birds taunting Dumbo:YouTube - When i see an Elephant fly - Dumbo

I have to say though...if I'd gotten that knife....I wouldn't be able to not brag about it either.
