I started using KBs 3 weeks ago and I have a blast workout out with them. Pavel's "Enter the Kettlebell" is IMO the best information guide. you can get it by torrent from many places, the PDF and the video. In the 3 weeks i can definitely tell my shoulder strength and my core strength have improved. Ill be finishing up the "RKC minimum" which is the first 4 weeks of the program and moving onto the "Rite of Passage" which looks to be pretty intense.
I right now only have one 40lb bell which is not pro grade but it gets the job done. The workouts are short but extremely intense. Good luck in your endeavors. And remember to eat right before and after the workout.

the latest contraption!
so here are some pics of my latest try, it will work good but it is a little bit lopsided
i used a 10.5" ball from the dollar store and some drywall mud to mold it. the problem came when trying to very buoyant ball in the drywall mud. plus i was all my myself so 2 hands were not enough. i learned my lessons though.

the reason they are larger is for weight, but they aren't really much taller then the other kettlebells my dad has. the one i used a basketball for is 34lbs i think and the other one (which by the way should be rounder) is about 52lbs. i also inserted nuts into the bottoms so i can add iron plates to the bottom for extra weight. i used them today and they work fine, but i am not a hard core kettlebell enthusiast, i basically have integrated about 5 KB exercises into my other body weight based exercises like chin ups and push ups and pistols.
i am kind of surprised how well they work (and impressed). cheap and simple way to work out really.
