I agree with pretty much everything. It was bad enough that the mayor apologized to that ass, but the president commenting? Judging from the fact that Gates is obnoxious and belligerent during press interviews, I'm sure that he was plenty obnoxious and belligerent when the cops came, and anybody with a lick of sense is nice to the cops no matter the situation. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he had the police called himself just so he could have this type of thing happen to him. This is a crowning moment of self righteousness for him, and hes playing it to the hilt.

I'm glad that the officer refused to apologize, and I'm even gladder that there is partial a tape of the incident coming out. I have a feeling that there'll be some back pedaling soon.

a cop should be treated the same as anyone given a Taser and Glock and the authority to use either without legal repercussion

While I agree Obama should ahve kept his mouth shut....

Didn't he get arested AFTER he had proven it was his house? He had complied with the lawful order, and was yelling and being a general SOB to the LEO?
Is being a dickhead an arresteable offense? I gess "disorderly" is just that...but if it's on the porch of the house you just proved was yours? Perhaps an overreaction to being insulted, but I agree that there doesn't seem to be anything racist FROM WHAT I KNOW (very little)....which is why I wouldn't CALL THEM STUPID!

Nothing to get emotional about. Emotion tends to cloud the truth anyways. You being a lawyer ( am I right ) probably know this: If you can draw a sufficient amount of emotion from someone then you can lead them by the nose with their emotion.

I've said it before and I will say it again, for what little it is worth. If Gates hadn't gotten so upset that he "lost it" we would have never heard of this because the cop would have departed without incident.

I know this from my interactions on the wrong end of close encounters with the police in my younger days. I always had the smarts to know that I wasn't going to win and that being respectful was going to be way better for me than being antagonistic.

Friends of mine, more then one, were severely beaten .... after being arrested ....by multiple cops back in the sixties when they didn't follow that policy.

President Obama shouldn't have commented on the case without knowing the facts but I have heard some pundits theorize that he did it knowing that it would take the focus off of other events in the news that he preferred to draw attention from. One way or the other he is smarter than that.

Unless the teleprompter is telling him what to say, Obama needs to just Shut Up. He is great at rehearsed and planned speaches (dare I say magnificent at them), but when there is no teleprompter telling him what to say he is worse than GWB.
