Thread: Cool Hand Luke

Just watched it for umpteenth time....



Really fantastic movie. Good story, good acting, good symbolism. One of those movies that I just never get tired of seeing.

Yeah, sometimes nothing is a mighty cool hand. I worked with a guy when I was an ironworker who did 5 years on one of those road prisons. He told me the movie was very accurate except when Luke was allowed to go to the bushes to do his business.

In reality my friend said they would have thrown a tarp over you and let you squat down where they could keep the shotgun on you and would have told you to "bring me some back on a stick" to make sure you weren't just trying to get a break from the work.

Quite a movie and quite a book. I read it years ago and IIRC the author had done time on one of those chain gangs and that was probably why it was so true to life.

EDIT; I did remember correctly, the author was writing from his own experience and he wrote the screenplay as well.
