Thanked: 17Politics should be discussed by SMART PEOPLE ONLY!!
My intent isn't to offend anyone in here, but if you are offended, maybe you should evaluate yourself.
Disclaimer complete.
When did we start letting the dumb people start getting attention? This whole health care debate has drummed up all the ignorant, thoughtless, people who have seemed to contort the constitution.
Example 1:
I learned the hard way that clicking on links on twitter is the wrong answer. Some oxygen thief made a web-site comparing Obama to Hitler. Well ignore this lack of tact because of a statement that was on the page that made the rest of the page un-important. "I speak God's language, American". Where to start? How about, when did "american" become a language? Did I sleep through this meeting? I thought here in America, we were American and spoke the American dialect of English. If I'm wrong, please tell me. Now to the other point in this example, does God have a language? And if it's the God I think it is (christian/jewish), doesn't he speak all languages? But if we must give him a language, wouldn't that be the language spoken by the Israelites, Hebrew? Have we gotten so arrogant as a nation that we think God is ours and ours alone?
Example 2:
I can't even isolate this to one event. "I don't want a muslim president!!!" Jiminey frickin Cricket people. Did we forget Rev. Jeremiah Wright? The guy that runs that baptist church in Chicago that Barack used to go to? When did baptist become muslim? Oh and by the way, here's a quote that should be important when it comes to the faith of our president: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." For those of you who don't know what that's from...IT'S THE FIRST AMENDMENT!!! The very amendment some of these people that say these DUMB things abuse everytime they open their mouths.
Example 3:
Now this one really hit home and I had to go back and pause the clip. At one of the "tea parties", someone had a pickett that had a picture of Obama's face on the body of a witch doctor. I had to thank God that I wasn't there because I would have called that man a racist, broke his nose and walked of saying, "Hope you have health insurance". People, this isn't 1863, we're all in this country together. To not like someone because of their color is just plain ignorant. And to make a racist representation of the president is just disrespectful. While on this topic, I'd like to mention Glenn Beck calling Obama a racist. Against who? White people? So does that mean he hates his mother and the grandparents that raised him?
These are just examples of the idiots that are complaining and detracting from the actual issues. Some people shouldn't be allowed to vote, much less voice their opinions. I'm done, I'd move to a different country, but I'm sure there are idiots there too. Just stick with the devil I know

I agree!
You're so smart. I wish you were leading our country. What a great place the world would be.
Thanks for sharing this profound idea. It certainly added a touch of entertainment to my night.

Thanked: 235I can't help but disagree. Stupid people make politics fun. Without stupid people we would have to look a lot harder for some one to make fun of. If it weren't for stupid gullible people there would be about 75% less votes in every election here in Thailand.
As long as those stupid people aren't making decisions for me.

Visit Politifact.org they are a nonpartisan pulitzer prize winning fact checking organization started by ST Petersburg times. It helps to get through all the crap swirling out there.

Thanked: 1587Democracy means every man and woman (but not children of either gender) has as much say as anyone else whether rich or poor, white or black, genius or dullard. At least in theory.
Differing opinions are the "biodiversity" of politics really. I understand your frustration but in all honesty, saying something like "only smart people should be allowed to ...." is really not a lot different to the very things you find frustrating about what people are saying in the examples you give above.
What does smart mean anyway??

Thanked: 369Obama's Grandmother for instance. The one he said is a "typical white person."
"The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way."Last edited by honedright; 09-14-2009 at 03:49 AM.

Thanked: 155If only smart people could discuss politics then what would all the politicians (from both parties) do?
Oh, and Reverend Wright was not a Baptist, he was the leader of a UCC church before his retirement, and I presume he is still an ordained UCC minister.
