Movie tip: the over the hill band
I spent this saturday going out with my wife, without the kids. After diner we went to the movies, like we used to do regularly before we had the critters.
Now, in general, I hate Flemmish movies. It seems that the only movies we are good at making are tragedy packed dramas. However, a month or so ago I saw the trailer ofa new Flemmish movie 'Meisjes' (lit. Young Ladies) (English title: the over the hill band), and I was hooked instantly.
It is about an elderly woman who just lost her husband. She realizes that life has gone by way to quickly, and wants to sing again in a band, with her 2 old friends. She enlists the help of her 'failed' son to get things started. He agrees, on the condition that they play his kind of music.
The result is a heart warming movie, with a smile and a tear. It confronts you with mortality yet it makes you leave the theatre feeling good. Or at least, it did for me. This movie is the best I've seen in a long, long time.
Here is the youtube trailer, subtitled in English. I think the movie will also be released abroad, but when and how, I don't know. Might be only DVD rental. Still, should you have the opportunity, I hope you'll watch it:.
