Another Health Care Issue
Undocumented patients wary of offers to return to home countries - CNN.com
During one of the recent health care threads a number of people worried that any new plan would provide health care coverage for illegal aliens. The linked story demonstrates clearly that our current system pays for health care for illegal aliens. The story tries to make it sound like the hospitals or facilities absorb these costs, but they fail to mention that facilities get most of their money from governments and insurance companies - which means they get their money from our taxes or our insurance premiums.
My question for you guys is what can we do to prevent this - now or under a new system? I don't know the answer, but I'm curious to see what others think.

If someone shows up at an emergency room they must be evaluated and treated and stabilized at the minimum and that's the law. It doesn't matter if their from Alpha Centuri.

I honestly do not know what size of a problem these illegal aliens are for your country. We have our own here, but the principle is to help anyone in need of a medical help, not what to do to prevent from giving help.

An friend of mine was in France and had overstayed his visa. He was illegal and became ill and had to be hospitalized. He was treated and released without having to pay a centime. He has since applied for a permanent visa or the equivalent of a green card in the USA.
As thebigspendur says in the USA they are required by law to stabilize and that is it. I know at least one person who eventually died because they lacked health insurance and the E.R. at the hospital gave them short shrift over multiple attempts to access care. I heard a stat of approximately 20,000 per year dieing as a result of not having health insurance to begin with or losing it shortly after becoming ill. Pleasant dreams.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 116Actually between October 17 2006 and somewhere in 2008 it no longer was strictly forbidden. If a law making it possible was successfully passed once without riots, what are the chances of it happening again?
