If people turn over in their graves J Edgar Hoover and Senator Joe McCarthy must be spinning like a top. What the heck, they are our 'trading partner'. We are buying stuff from Viet Nam and other communist dictatorships too. Soon we'll be legally smoking cigars from Havana with any luck. The almighty dollar doesn't have an idealogical point of view.

I think it's a sign of the times and of some variation of things to come. I'm not saying that the U.S. is certain to become communistic. I found it interesting that there was a recent article in the magazine, Foreign Affairs which is the magazine of the Council on Foreign Relations, that lauded China's system. The author argued in his essay that China has come out a clear winner and that, like it or not, it's proven that China's system is superior to failed capitalism. I thought I recall reading that the Rockefeller Foundation has kicked in a ton of money to China in hopes of continuing its successful population control measures. I know it would be helpful for me to cite sources, I'm just recalling from memory. My point is, it seems there are people in high places that seem to like they way China is operating rather than the opposite; The Empire State Building thing must just be a reflection of that.

I have to admit that I think it is in bad taste.
