Any 'Computer People' Around? Help?
Hi!
So here's what I'm looking at: I've uploaded footage from an HD camera and saved the files, but the program that's handling that part ("HDVSplit" it's called) has saved the files as "MT2" files, which Windows Movie Maker does not accept as a file type it can work with. It wants .avi or .mpeg.
So I basically need to know how to change the files to this type and/or fix it so that the program does it automatically in future transfers from camera to computer.
I tried a couple of "Converter" trials, which did work to an extent, but one left a watermark in the middle of the video because I had yet to buy it and the other only rendered 50% of the file.
I basically just need to be able to manipulate the footage in Movie Maker, so any help you guys could potentially give me would be great.

Did you mean m2t (or m2ts)?
If so, Any Video Converter might work. I don't have any way of testing it at the moment, but I've heard good things about it.

here is a link to any video converter Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG
it tells you the formats there, i didn't see M2T though. its worth a download and see if it recognizes the files. be sure to scan the setup file before using it though
i have used it in the past and it worked well. i have also done what commiecat said as my parents have a mini DVD camcorder that they had the same problems with. it worked great (and made my mom happier as she was going to sell the thing ha!).

We encountered a similar problem. Our Sony HD camcorder came with two different programs. One of them is used to dump the camera, the other is a player. The player had an option to export to a different format, such as AVI or MPG that Windows Movie Maker can interpret. It's a PITA, but I that's the price for high-def right now.

Here's what I did: downloaded a 30-day free trial of Sony Vegas 9.0 from their site. What a jump in quality from what I had been doing! It's an all-in-one capture, converter, comressor, editor. Quite professional. I'm going to have to buy it.
I've just been messing around with a bunch of footage I have, so if any of y'all know my YouTube channel from the shaving video(s), check it out. Just put up 4 vids.
