    Default Ammo "shortage"

Does it seem like this so-called shortage is over to any of you? I just went into my local sporting goods store that never has anything but shotgun shells in stock and they had everything in quantity! Was I just lucky or is this manufactured shortage over?

It is better than it was. I have heard that .380 is still scarce and expensive, relatively speaking, when you can find it. That is because light weight carry guns chambered for that caliber have become so popular..... or so I hear.

I haven't had any shortage problems. .40 cal and 12 g shells and 00 in abundance in my town. .40 cal is still very expensive though. no need for .38 so I don't know about them.

100,000 rounds ? If I had that kind of money I would pay my mortgage off and buy some Livi damascus razors with exotic scales.

100 grand of ammo??! wow. Now I'm only allowed to buy 2 boxes of 50 rounds each (.40 cal), and those are blunt ended target rounds. I don't know the reason for that. I've never asked the guys at my gun shop why the two box limit for target rounds. I usually buy my target rounds at the range where I shoot (NRA HQ). I don't like to keep a stockpile of dozens of boxes of ammo in my house just in case of a house fire. I keep what I think is enough for my protection and I buy ammo as I need it.

I have noticed how expensive shotgun shells have become over the last year or so. We used to be able to get 1000 28g No7 for under £150, now its nearly (or just over) £200.

If you go up to heavier loads you can pay ridiculous amounts. I usually use Black Gold cartridges because I like something punchy and the 32g No5 are nearly £220 per 1000 now..!

I'm wondering about whether to go down to 24g or 21g loads just because of the cost.

Not much of a shortage here, just a BIG demand for the stuff. I was talking w the guy from my local gun store and he is telling me he can not keep the stuff on the shelves at all. That is also why the prices spiked.

He said he was stocking up for the hunting season that will start in Mid November.

We have had shortages here in Middle Tennessee, but I've not looked recently. Mostly a lack of .308, .270, and 30-06, deer cartridges, and most pistol hollow points, FMJ seems available. Maybe it is better now. Thank goodnes I have plenty anyway.
