Tony Blair: President of Europe..?
So now that the Irish have voted Yes on the Lisbon Treaty, not that they had much choice given that the powers that be just held another referendum until they got the result they wanted and scaremongered the vote through. Anyway, I digress... There is now some serious discussion about the possibility of Tony Blair becoming President of the EU.
Now personally I dont like Blair and I think he was definately a poor PM. He was only interested in furthering his own career and I always felt he was a politicians politician. He'd say whatever he had to to get what he wanted and was far more concerned about the international scene than actually running the country.
So you can probably tell by now I`m not particularly pro-EU and I dont like Blair, so I`ll get off my soapbox!
What I want to know is what peoples opinions are of Blair as President of the EU? Do you think he would be any good? Or not, as the case may be?
Opinions please!

As non British i can not tell how Blair did as your PM. For what i understood he wasn't so popular at the end.
There are other candidates too, but have no any idea are they really better or worse: Juncker (Luxemburg), Schröder (Germany), Solana (Spain), Schüssel (Austria), Lipponen (Finland), Dehaene (Belgium). Luckily Berlusconi isn't among those candidates.
To me the president of EU sounds really distant. More important is who will be the foreign minister of EU.
From my experience, there are more positive than negative things in EU.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

Between Blair & that tw@t Brown the country has been run into the ground. We've got unaffordable housing, an astronomical benefits bill & more Eastern European wasters than you can shake a stick at.
I voted no, but it may be the perfect opportunity to give Europe some of what we've had. We should introduce a clause whereby they can have him as long as they take Gordon too!

Hmmm, I'm not sure...
I'm not a fan of Blair, but then under his stewardship and guidance, he made some big breakthroughs in the NI peace treaty. If that was indeed down to his ability, then that's the sort of skill which would be beneficial for Europe.
But I suspect he hasn't got what it takes.

As person on this side of the pond I can say that the papers here painted Blair as a Bush lapdog.
If that is what he is then make him president of Antarctica.

I'm so glad that not all countries in Europe are members of EU!
