With regards to an actual .22- no one HAS to sell one lol, and apparently there's a lot of paper work if you aren't a citizen. (Even with a green card). Second- this is highly illegal- but you can silence them fairly easily and cheaply using household objects (though I won't say how because it is illegal). Thirdly- it is illegal to shoot rifles in residentially zoned areas. I would love a real .22 but I just don't think its gonna happen. My dad inherited his dad's old Mauser, and thats a real treat, so I guess I just have to wait for trips to the farm lol.
I think for now I'll just get a cheap air rifle to tide me over...

check out a Benjamin.
They're accurate for what they are, and you don't have to worry about a springer. .22 is your best bet.

I own a Diana .177 caliber break-barrel. It travels at around 500 fps, but I've killed plenty of critters with it.
