"Again, with the Olympics, do you REALLY think it is a good idea to have a MAJOR and extremely expensive event in a city that would in NO way be able to afford it on their own? The PEOPLE would have been the ones that would have had to fork out the money to pay for the Olympics in Chicago, and the people that were saying they didn't want it there, understood that."
I can't recall the last time a city/country DIDN'T want to host the Olympics, particularly when they were a nominee. Nor do I recall any city/country suffering a net economic loss as a result of hosting the Olympics. Just the opposite-hosting the Olympics has, at least in modern times, been considered both an honor and a financial plus. (That is, unless you're so anti-Obama that you'd rather see your country lose than your political adversary prevail...)

Thanked: 1501976 Winter Olympics. Colorado did not want it, and it went elswhere. Edit: Oh Yeah, and we were already selected to host, and not just a nominee, and we told the IOC to stuff it.
Colorado only state ever to turn down OlympicsLast edited by mhailey; 10-09-2009 at 08:10 PM.
