I have a theory about the DMV
My theory is that, on certain unannounced days, they hand out drivers licenses. I have seen some terrible driving recently (I've been driving more than usual). There's the usual changing lanes without looking, turning without signaling, leaving turning signals on for extended periods of time without actually turning, running red lights, and all that jazz.
What gets me the most is people who drive under the speed limit. Especially in the left lane. I can't think of anything that irritates me more. It totally inhibits the flow of traffic. This is especially bad in the Rochester area, where driving on Interstates (there are three here, none of which, by the way, do not leave the state). There is one particular stretch of 490 where it narrows from three lanes to two and the speed limit goes up from 55 to 65 MPH. And every time, I get stuck behind two cars, one in each lane, both doing 55 OR LESS!!!
WHY!?!?!?!?!?
Ah, that feels better.

Thanked: 586Studies indicate that the drivers blocking the left lane, drifting with no apparent point from lane to lane, sitting interminably at green lights, never using turn signals and generally driving as if they believe they are completely alone on the road are either on the phone or from Massachussetts.

I share your frustration. Add the hicks out by me on 104 and the rush hour traffic in both directions and the people that have to keep hitting their breaks every few seconds. There are times when I just have enough and revert back to my Long Island driving style, which gets CarrieM nervous!

Thanked: 735The problem isn't the DMV, it is texting/cell phone use while driving.

I grew up in Norther Indiana and in/around Chicago. We have our fair share of poor drivers, just like every state. But on the whole, driving is an enjoyable experience.
Then I came to college in South Carolina. I have been up and down the Eastern Seaboard, across the Midwest, even Europe. South Carolina has hands down the worst drivers on Earth. I don't know how this has avoided national attention for so long, but I can't even leave my apartment anymore without fearing for my life because some idiot doesn't know the different between left and right, or 45 and 65, or God knows what else.
Rant complete, just needed to get that out there.

I was anticipating on reading about the bureaucratic joys of the DMV. ;D
With regards to slow drivers who always magically end up next to each other and then show no indication of actually passing and making room for the drivers who drive closer to the limits: Is it considered very offensive to blink the big lights once or twice?

Thanked: 234There can't be many states left where you can still use a phone? It's been illegal here for a few years now, if you think it's bad when the majority are driving autos, think how bad it could be when you need both hands to drive lol.
Phantom traffic jams annoy the hell out of me. As do people who are just plane bad drivers. I was parked at work the other day and when I got back to my car, the people next to me had parked diagonally and closed MY mirror so they could get out! that annoyed the hell out of me as well.
I have to say, my indicating is poor.

Thanked: 293I'm not even going to let my rant get the better of me in this thread. I may blow a gasket or have a capillary explode in my eyeball.
My girlfriend tells me I should count to 10 before I use the horn or accelerate around one of such drivers. She works with children. She has that luxury. By the time "count to 10" has crossed my mind, I've already leaned on the horn for 15 seconds and blown passed the old lady who can't see over the steering wheel on account of her 95 years causing her spine to shrink.
Wait a minute.. did I say I wasn't going to rant?
