    Default Trip to Barcelona Advice

The wife and I are taking a trip to Barcelona next month. Does anyone know of any good places to purchase razors there? Any "must do" items while we're there? Any restaurant recommendations?
    Thanks,

We spent about 10 days in Barcelona last year -- it's an amazing city! First, learn the subway system and look into multi-day passes (as opposed to per-use). Their underground system is easy and efficient and most trains come every few minutes.

We did a bicycle tour of the city which was a blast. Barcelona is very bike friendly and we found it a good way to familiarize ourselves with the location.

There are tons of restaurants but I think our favorite meal was one we did ourselves. La Boqueria is a massive outdoor market, and there are also smaller ones around the city. We grabbed some fresh bread, chorizo, goat's cheese, figs and tomatoes and had a dinner at the apartment we were renting. You won't go wrong at most restaurants, either. Great meats, seafood and wine throughout the city. If you want an alternative to Rioja then ask for Navarra (the rolled Rs make it sound like "Nevada") -- wonderful red wine from northern Spain that's usually less expensive than Rioja.

One place we visited several times was Cacao Sampaka. Spanish hot chocolate is divine -- it's almost as thick as pudding. I always had some with melindros, which were almost like lady fingers.

If you like sports then see if you can catch a soccer match at Camp Nou. The stadium is gorgeous and F.C. Barca is one of the top teams in the world.

For sightseeing, my wife and I really enjoyed; Park Guell, Sagrada Familia (we skipped the trip to top spire and didn't regret it -- line was crazy long), Montserrat, Font Magica at night, the soccer game, all the cathedrals, and of course the beach at anytime. I also enjoyed the aquarium and Montjuic, which I don't think the wife was that thrilled with. Montjuic is kinda like visiting Fort Sumter if that helps. Also, Montserrat has some scary steep cable cars to visit so be warned.

I think that's all I can think of off the top of my head. You can see most of the better pictures I took here:

    Hope you have a blast!

You will not find a Fillie (I know, because I asked already), but you can find some shaving-related items here:

And Santa María Novella also have a shop in Barcelona:

And for the rest, commiecat's advice is spot on!

Montserrat was a highlight for me and my wife; you should Google it. It's a Catholic Monastery. Since we're Catholic, it had an added level of meaning and importance that probably wouldn't be had for many others. Still, the Montserrat Boys Choir is just amazing and sings there quite often.

For the life of me I can't recall if we stopped in a cutlery shop in Madrid or Barcelona, but there was a great little shop by one of the Cathedrals (not Sagrada Familia). I bought a Merkur Fat Boy DE and that was before I was into straights at all. In retrospect, I would bet they had Fillys. Sorry I'm not more help on the whereabouts.

Check out El Corte Ingles. It's a huge awesome department store that takes up like a whole city block. The deli in the basement has some great food and tons of wine. We bought a spinach/mushroom/potato "tortilla" (which in Spain is like a very tasty egg fritatta and nothing to do with flour or corn flatbread), some great bread, fruit, etc. I would bet that the Men's area of El Corte Ingles has some great shave creams/soaps, etc.

We had some great seafood at one of the many restaurants on the warff near the Hotel Arts. Maybe that's more touristy and was expensive, but no question the seafood was fresh and varied.

I absolutely loved the food in Spain and I agree, you probably can't go wrong in most any of the restaurants.

Also, if I knew then what I know now (we went about seven years ago), I'd be bringing back a few bottles of some different Sherry varieties. I enjoy a glass of Sherry now and again.

If I was independently wealthy and could live anywhere in the world, I could easily see myself living in Spain.

Have a wonderful time and take lots of pictures and hopefully post a few here.
