    Default So called razorstands

    Uhm ok,
Now I am starting to wonder if I am nuts or many others are (do not argue, the trouble is not explained till after sentence!).

I look around a bit, see what razorstands there are on this site and on ebay etc.

After some careful browsing I have to come to the conclusion that 90% of the so called razorstands are really pipe holders ......

    Any idea's on this?

Yeah, I've heard others say the same thing. I've taken to making my own stands out of bits and pieces I come across at the home depot.

I have used wooden pipe stands and also pen display stands for razors. The lucite pen stands look the best but typically the bottom locating hole is a bit small and rounded enough to cause the razor to go skating off of the stand if you bump it. Some, like the ones at Woodcraft have a bad angle between top and bottom supports so havy items like razors are off balance. Wooden pipe stands work well but are no quite as pretty and tend to be rather large.

Here is a ready and waiting market for someone who could make a better design!

My girlfriend is into woodworking. I'm trying to convince her to produce razor stands to sell. Also, Bill Ellis had some that he made at some point, but I haven't heard of them in a while.

I would love to see someone offer a few nice designs. A two, four or seven razor holder with a cutout for one or two shave brushes would certainly sell.
It would be fairly easy to make from thin, 1/2" wood like on many pipe stands and pretty turned spindles to separate top and bottom are available from Woodcraft and other suppliers.
I get requests for them often but am too busy doing strops to branch out into stands.

I've got a few designs in mind that I may get time to start working on very soon. I'm thinking of a wall-mount design to hold 7 razors and a brush and also one for 2 razors and a brush. I'm still thinking through a few designs and contemplaing whether an open design or one with a glass/plexiglass swinging door would be best.

I been thinking about making a razor stand that mounts to my bathroom mirror with suction cups, the kind with a knob on the end that they use to hang sun catchers, to hold the seven or eight razors in my rotation. I've already made a couple of brush holders using this kind of suction cup. the holder part is 1/8" aluminum wire bent around the knob, then both pieces go down about an inch and then bend out away from the mirror. then I bent the pieces into a wide enough space for the brush. That way my counter space is less cluttered.

I have 4 stands left if anyone is interested. Not sure if the guys who bought them like them, or not. Maybe they could say something. The weakest point in the construction was that you could not bump the thing around much or the razors would slide off. I would place a finger on the base when I took the brush out of the holder... other than that, I think they are ok for the price. Pics are in the gallery.
