The OP could just smile at the guy teasing him and start chanting "allahu akbar".
When I started shooting handguns, I learned on some kind of semi-auto .22 first, then only when I was pretty consistant on those did I move up to 9mm. I preferred shooting a Ruger .357 Magnum to semi-autos though, I was always considerably more accurate with revolvers.

Ya know, the guy next to you may have been using sarcasm to actually give you a compliment. He might have actually been impressed by your shot group, but couldn't express it in a better way.

I think he was. My first time at a range and all I was just not up on the etiquette. Plus I am introverted so that does not help.

When I go to public ranges I just ignore all thoses around me, I find that the gun community harbors more than their share of A$$ho!e$.
Shoot enjoy the experience and before you know it you will have found another hobby that is extremly fun and rewarding.
Stay safe, shoot and shave straight...

I'm introverted also, and I would hate a comment like that, no matter the meta message. I'm also a quick tounge, as all who know me will agree. I prob would have replied: "And you can't start a conversation worth Shit yourself, so aren't we both short on needed skills?!" but thats me. Someone said that the gun community is a great place for A holes- he is right. F him and enjoy yourself.
