Thanked: 235Locker room etiquette
I have a few questions regarding locker room etiquette. There are a few people at the gym I go to who display habits (I think of them as bad habits) that bug the sh!t out of me.
The first one that bugs me is nudity in the locker room. I don't mean the occasional glimpse. I'm referring to the guy who likes to parade around the locker room holding his towel in his hand as if he is trying to make sure everyone cops an eye full.
The next one is nudity in the steam room. The steam room at this gym has two levels of seating, the top level of seating is almost at eye level. This is where the guy mentioned above likes to sit with no towel, legs spread wide.
Then there is the old guy who loudly hawks gobs of phlegm in the shower. Once is OK. Sometimes you need to clear your throat, but this guy does it again and again and again.
Lastly and the most disgusting (my wife told me about this after a conversation with the cleaners) is the person who leaves a steaming pile of sh!* on the shower floor. Apparently there is one guy who does this and one girl.
So am I being too precious or would these things bug you too. And what other bad habits in the locker room annoy you?

ahhhhhh! i thought i was the only one that was weirded out and ticked off about this! when i used to go to the local YMCA (i had a free menbership through work) the one "trainer" (he was not in good shape in any sense and knew nothing about training) would walk around naked with his towel on his shoulder, and then proceed to shave (with a disposable ! ha!), do his hair and brush his teeth in front of the ONE set of mirrors in the place.
as far as i am concerned it is common courtesy to cover yourself when in close quarters situations like that. nudity happens when you are in a change room, whatever thats no big deal, but there are definitely some guys that seem to be trying a bit to hard to be naked at all times.
also some of the stories i have heard from hockey players are almost disturbing when it comes to what goes on those change rooms.
as an aside, i did have a very strange encounter with a guy who i think was in some way mentally handicapped. we were in the showers (they didn't have the stall ones it was just one big shower) and he was talking to himself which i just kind of respectfully ignored, but then he says "hi, have i done your birthday yet?", i say "No" having no clue what to expect (though truthfully not scared as he seemed like a harmless guy ) so he asks me my birthday and then thinks for a bit before telling me i was born on a friday which is true, all this while we are both naked in a communal shower. weird experience for sure. ha!

You left one thing out. That same nude fella parading around will sit his naked sweaty ass right on the bench. They DO have towels there.

I swear, if I saw someone drop a deuce in the shower floor, we'd be fighting... There's no way that's acceptable under any circumstances.

As long as nobody is slapping anyone's bottom ..... actually I don't go to gyms, I have freeweights in my extra bedroom. Your situation isn't enviable. I would complain about some of it to the management.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Few years in the local swimming hall i saw a very large sized Russian gentleman drying his testicles with the hair dryer. Lifting, stretching and squeesing them and speaking by himself at the same time. It was an absurd sight haha.

The nudity thing wouldn't bother me at all. Perhaps Americans are more sensitive to it than Europeans. The rest is plain gross imo.

Thanked: 2I seem to recall that the ancients Greeks (where the word "gymnasium" arises) used to train and have contests naked. Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnasium_(ancient_Greece) even includes the definition of the greek word "gymnos" as meaning "naked" so I guess they aren't behaving too badly so maybe cut them some slack ;-)
