I agree that elections are important, that is why people choose representatives. If they don't represent you according to your wishes, you vote them out. And since any government is made up of multiple parties, they are watching each other like hawks in order to get ahead.
Now let's look at the US presidential election.
A lot of you simply vote party line, no matter who or what. That's the sad reality. The election is a year long media campaign, costing lots of money, and rather than decide on the issues, people vote because of the propaganda and one-liners (Yes we can!) or partyline.
That, and the fact that you have a 2 party system breeds an environment where everything has to be black or white, and compromise and concensus are dirty words.

I was told that it is very difficult and costly for 3d parties to even get themselves on the ballot. And with the ridiculous 'winner takes all' approach to the electoral college, and 3d party in the race is basically a lame duck.
And even if he would get elected, with a congress and senate that are ruled by either of the big 2, he'd be a lame duck afterwards as well.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I do get my info about Obama and friends from FOX, the only fair and balance news organization in USA
So far they are not afraid to expose the corruption in the current administration, how they don't know how to fix the economy, can't or don't want to solve the unemployment crisis, and they're driving this country into bankruptcy.
I'd like to recommend Bill O'Reilly, it's got to be a reason why FOX gets higher ratings than the rest of the left-wing media combined, give him a try, you may like him.
I know this is a little bit of topic but very educational

Holy Hell that is funny. There isn't a single "fair" nor "balanced" media outlet in the US. They are all the mouth piece of the RNC or the DNC. Pick your poison. If you're not getting your information from multiple outlets and doing the fact checking for yourself then you are at a disadvantage.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
I'd laugh if I didn't suspect you were serious.
FOX is anything but fair and balanced. They are right wing neocons.
Now, I don't say this is necessarily a bad thing. Other media outlets are probably similarly extreme in one way of another. Kinda sad that you don't have impartial news coverage in the US though.
You are really fortunate though. The only fair and balanced news outlet in the US, and they just so happen to have the same agenda as you. How very lucky of you.Last edited by Bruno; 11-23-2009 at 04:06 PM.

Thanked: 1903Actually, I do not find your remark disappointing at all. In fact, it seems to be very reasonable, and insightful, as it fully explains your view of the world.
Let's do a quick check... Search for germany - FOXNews.com - interesting. You know, I used to actually live and work in the US (Cincinnati, and Chicago) back in the 90s. I must admit that I was somewhat let down by the unavailability of relevant new coverage about anything outside the US. Apparently, things have not really changed since then.
But that's fine. Some people believe in simple answers to complex problems, and I can appreciate that. Political science is called a science because it can get confusing. Especially if you draw your information from sources that are, mildly put, not very reliable.

Robin
