I gave my pops a SR shave
It was actually with a shavette I figured that the practice would help. My dad was in the hospital and I figured there was no better way to make him feel better than to give him a good shave.
I was really nervous but I figured that he had been poked and prodded enough over the week that if I nicked him it wouldn't be a big deal. I brought a thermos of water that I had boiled in my kettle at home, a couple of towels and all my usual supplies.
We started with a lather of C.O. Bigelow and a warm towel for a few minutes and then I lathered him up with with some SRD blood orange sc. Then it was time for the shave, I went really really slow and used a gentle touch. I did 2 passes 1 WTG an 1 XTG then a little Bay Rum and some lotion. When all was said and done he was BBS and no nicks I couldn't believe it.
He loved it so much he asked me to come to the house a couple days later and do it again so of course I obliged. Once again a great shave no nicks!!!
The only problem I had was my lather was drying up a bit but I figured that was because I was going so slow the same thing happened to me when I first started shaving myself with a straight.

Thanked: 293Hey great job! I'd say taking your time is more important than chasing your lather before it dries out. You can always re-wet the brush and re-apply. Sounds like you're well on your way to those straight razor shaves to satisfied customers.

Most excellent! I think I will have to try shaving my father, but I will have to wait until he is on his deathbed!

Thanked: 735You can always "freshen-up" your lather mid-pass. No harm in that.
Sounds nice! Congrats!

Good for you! Thats a really nice thing to do for your dad. Who knows he may be calling you to borrow your razors soon. Or even better you can buy or give him one for Christmas since he liked it so much.
