    Default Road rage....WARNING, foul language...

OK, I understand getting peeved and acting a little agro, but then cooling down and getting over it. I think that's probably pretty universal. But in the past week, I have been the subject of TWO very hostile events.

First...a detour sent me through a part of town I don't know, in a pretty bad neighborhood. I was in the right lane of a two lane road, when a guy in an SUV starts LAYING on his horn and serving into my lane, CLEARLY intentionaly. I slow down to let him get in front of me, but he stays right with me, leaning on his horn, and forcing me to literally put two wheels up on the curb. Finally he goes on, and I realize that the lane I am in (NOT marked) ends, and it merges into his. Apparently he saw me as trying to take advantage of a turn only lane to "cut him off." We were ini pretty heavy traffic, no one was really going anywhere. So, whatever...now I'm behind him. We get through a few lights, and traffic opens up, I am in the right lane again, and I pass him, he is stuck behind someone turning left. he must have been watching me, because the SECOND I pass him, he is behind me, INCHES from my bumper, with his high beams on. He crosses a double yellow line IN TRAFFIC to pass me, slams his car into the lane in front of me, and LOCKS UP HIS BRAKES. I essentially pulled over to let him move ahead, and he slowed down to a crawl a block ahead to wait for me. I turned off the main road and took the back way home, called the police and gave a description of the vehicle...unfortunatley, in the moment, I was too concerned about getting in an accident to get a plate number. I got color, make, model, and California plates (pretty rare in Connecticut).

Then....this morning, a guy flew, full speed, through a stop sign off a side street, into a row of traffic I was in. I honked as I slammed on my brakes so as to not hit him. At the next light....he rolls down his window, and this 400 pound, resting his gut on the steering weheel, greasy, unshaven half-witted trogolodyte begins a mostly unintelligible profanity laced tirade. I know it included the word "faggot" and it ended with the most bizarre threat I believe I have ever heard. He ended it with "....and I'll find you and I'll break my dick off in your ass." Now...I am not the toughest man in the world, but I can defend myself decently. I've been in my share of scraps, won some, lost some, lost some pretty badly. I'm no doctor, either, but I'm pretty sure that in his scenario...he comes out worse than I do. I mean....I'll heal up, right? Why would you theraten to do that, exactly? I'm confused now...and the image is bothersome for SO many reasons!

Anyway...thanks for letting me vent...I feel better already. This morning's encounter left me a touch shaken...not because of any actual physical fear, but it was just too WEIRD.

I've been in a few of those encounters over the years. Too much testosterone. A friend once told me that I can start my day all over again if I choose to. I remember that and try to do it rather than let some jerk ruin my day.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

been there as well. My antagonist stopped in front of me on a highway (2 lane) in order to chew or beat on me. I slipped my jeep in reverse and due to oncoming traffic had to veer into the opposing lane, so in essence I was driving the right direction, just facing backwards. I was able to whip into a parking lot and change directions without having to do that very far though. I am sure it gave the person behind (in front?) of me something to talk about lol.

Remember to laugh. As unsettling as it is / was, trying to make sense of someone that senseless has no upside.

Thanks fellas. Yeah, I try not to let it get to me. I actually wrote a rather funny essay (if I do say so myself) a few years ago on the topic. I was stopped by a traffic cop in th middle of aleft-turn lane, because a light was broken. A guy behind me leaned on his horn and started screaming himself red in the face. I put my hands up in the "what can I do about it sign." He started to get out of his car, and I think he then noticed the flashing police car and officer in the middle of the road...and quietly went back to his fury. If your week is already that bad at 7:30 on a Monday morning....you need a new job!!!

I admittedly get frustrated when someone knowingly comes up a lane that is going to end just to get ahead of a few cars. Granted I don't think it ever occurred to me to endanger everyone around me in order to vent my frustration.

Sounds to me, from your description of the guy, that it may be someone that spends a lot of time playing on line MMO video games (these games seem to give normal people the anonymity curse where they seem to act like asses cause they can get away with it).

Perhaps this guy got frustrated and didn't realize that his version of windows was "windshield" and that he was currently playing the game of "reality"

either way at least you are OK and didn't end up in a bender with him (or worse).

When I scanned through this in the morning that goofy cartoon was what I was thinking about and it is exactly true. Put someone in a chunk of metal with an engine and make them think they are anonymous and they turn in monsters. I used to spend a lot of time on the road and I'll tell you I've seen people do things on the road that left me with no doubt people go bezerk.

This makes me glad I live in Thailand. Here the accepted method to turn right (for Americans think turning left) is to slowly inch out into the intersection until the other drivers have the option of hitting you or letting you make the turn. Here you can park on almost any road even if it allows other cars to pass with only one onch of clearance on either side. Here it is ok to stop in a shopping center car park and wait for the people you have seen walking towards their car, even if there is a procession of cars waiting behind you.
So if you are tired of road rage, come here and change road rage for road chaos.
