Default Some one burned down a book shop

On the surface this sounds terrible, especially to a person like me who loves to read. But this has turned out to be an early christmas present for me. You see, my father in-law runs a demolition company and he just happened to get the contract for demolishing the remains of this bookshop. Normally when he comes home after the first day on a new work site he brings back stuff like light fittings, air conditioners and anything that he can sell as second hand building materials. But this time he has bought back two large car loads of books.

To make this even better this was an English language book shop geared towards educating foreigners about Thai and South East Asian culture. Some of these books have been water damaged and smoke damaged, but as this was a book shop there were many more than just one copy of each book. For each copy that is damaged there are about five copies that are not damaged.

So I have just spend the past few hours cleaning and sorting books. They are almost all non fictions. They range from topics like political and cultural histories of South East Asia, the history of the Thai monarchy to books about Thai pottery and art.

It's going to take me a few days to sort through them all. When they are all sorted my father in-law intends to sell them all. But I'm sure a few are going to go missing and maybe find their way into my room.

    nathan,
you are indeed lucky to come into that little treasure hoard. i too am an avid reader and love books on everything and anything. (hate to be around when a topic comes up and i do not have a clue as to what is being said) i used to have quite a large library of books, but a couple of divorces and a couple of unfriendly ex-wifes and they got taken away..
history books are one of my favorites..if you watch modern history published now, you will see the rewrites of things that happened not that long ago.
good luck with the sorting of the books and hide the good ones for yourself..

Sounds nice, I'm not a huge reader, most of the reading I do are movie books.
