Thanked: 586Anyone Familiar With Superstitions?
There is a familiar old saw that seems to make a connection between tools used on wednesday and alopecia. Typically, most legends and superstitions are deeply rooted in fact, The myths came about only because the people of yesteryear were not equipped to make the final connectionsbetween the factual results of certain actions and what appeared to be the causal factors. I would be surprised if you folks didn't have your own very good examples but the one I want to open for analysis is:
Drop Wednesday's pin and leave it there, by the end of this day you'll have no hair.
I am sure you've all heard several versions of this. Some say it is "pen" not "pin". I have heard it promise you'd have blue hair as opposed to no hair. But dropping a pen certainly couldn't be connected with baldness so I am convinced the author was talking about a "pin". However, what sort of pin are we discussing? A single straight pin such as a tailor might use? Maybe a bowling pin? A cotter pin? The axles on sheaves in blocks are called pins. Maybe they meant those? Or maybe we are talking about pin as a verb? Do any of you have any thoughts about this?

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It's referring to a hair pin. Probably one like this:
If you don't put your hair pin back in, you'll lose your hair. Especially on Wednesdays. It's as simple as thatFind me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

I don't know anything about superstitions, but we have a horseshoe above our front door to keep demons and elfs out. 'Just in case'. Also giving a can of salt straight into someone's hand is a no no here, as well as putting a bag on the floor. Also i never whistle when on a ship
