Has anyone else (undoubtedly) had this situation when talking with some poor person who doesn't know anything about our little world here.

You're telling them about our 'hobby' .... uuhuummm .... and the forum here and they are looking at you and it seems like you can practically read their mind as they think - ("are you kidding me? are you nuts? you ain't right man. you're weird!").

As someone had in their signature, something to the effect of 'Some people say "it's just shaving", they just don't understand.'
