    Default Machete

Length over all is 15 7/8":

    The handle is stacked leather:

This is the only mark I could find on it:

I am guessing it was made for cutting sugar cane but I really have no clue.
Can anyone tell me when, where and why this interesting machete was made?

In case anyone is interested, I did manage to learn about this tool. It is Italian from the 1940's. It is called a roncola, in English we'd call it a billhook. It is used for light pruning, clearing hedgerows and general machete type duties.

Looks to me like an older version of the Woodsmen's Pal seen here.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

That is very nasty looking machete. I like the leather handle which makes it look sort of farming tool. Sharpen it and use it whenever you have to graft some trees.

Maybe to hang it up? Although I guess you could hang it from that large hook at the end of the handle.

The hole is definitely to hang the tool on a convenient nail. You really wouldn't want to use the hook shape of the blade to hang it up. You'd damage the cutting edge.
