Default She Wants a New Television!

And seeing that it's her money, I guess we are getting a new television set. The best deal I could find is a Sharp Aquos 46" LCD # LC-C4677UN. I know little about these things but it looks like this machine is very well liked: http://reviews.costco.com/2070/11474694/reviews.htm Maybe some of you techno-cats have some input? Oh, the best thing is the price, $799.99 and no sales tax!

Can someone please tell me how I can find out the size of the carton it will be coming home in? I need to be sure I take the right vehicle to pick it up.

    Looks like a great set.

The main items that jump out at me are the 1080i (vs the 720p) and the reviews.

You should have no problems fitting this into the back seat of your car. Worst case would be going though your trunk. Either way, you should have no problems getting it in there.

Plus..... Costco has an great return policy, so if you have a problem with it, you can always bring it back. I had an issue with a laptop MONTHS after buying it.

    Good luck!

I am actually buying this thing at the VA hospital gift shop. No sales tax is very nice.

I wouldn't use the mini! You make the VA gift shop sound like the PX. Or is that BX in Navy speak?.

The Sharp picture is quite good.

The important thing on any new HD TV is to
make sure it has at least three HDMI inputs
and some that match the existing externals
like DVD, DVR, game box etc.

one of my friends has been talking about getting a TV so I've been few times to bestbuy windowshopping with him. pretty much all of them look good and i couldn't really tell any advantage of stuff like higher frequency (forgot the numbers).
also in most showrooms the colors are hideous 'cause they've tuned them to peak0ck mode to attract attention. the standard i like is human skin and when i've messed up a bit with the sets i was able to make the image look great.
so, i think if the reviews are good and you like it in person go for it.

That sounds a good deal. LCD takes less watts than plasma, and 1080i picture is good. With at least 2 or 3 HDMI inputs you (and her) should have all the TV you want for years to come.

If you just want a flat panel this would be the way to go. If you are looking for the best picture, you are looking at the wrong TV. That said, I really like the sharp line of TV, and this will be good for a brightly lite room, and as someone said use less energy. Make sure you look up some calibration settings or get a disc and do it yourself, best 20-30 bucks you will spend. Out of the box the thing is going to be on supernova bright, so turn it down a little and enjoy. For the cash that thing is probably as good as anything else. Didn't see any contrast ratings there though.

I just got off the phone with my buddy Ray. He's going to pick me up at 0900 tomorrow and run me over to the West Haven VA hospital in his Audi A4 wagon.

Tomorrow will be awesome! Since she left to go galavanting in Jersey monday, I've been dry aging a couple two inch thick T-bones and http://www.caraluzzis.com/ has lobsters for $5.99. Scarlett will get home tomorrow to find a big new TV set, grilled aged porterhouse steak and fresh lobsters! All she has to is put up with me.

the aquos is great, i have a 52 in my living room and love it. the auto-adjust brightness can be annoying, but you can disable it.
