What would it mean? Fillibuster. Or try to push through the senate plan, even with all it's problems. (right doesnt' like it, left doesn't like it, but it's better than the status quo, IMNSHO).
As for the fillibuster, doesn't it deserve an up or down vote? Isn't that what a certain party (that was then in control) said of certain nominees whose confirmation encountered a threatened filibuster asked of the minority party? It deserves a good-old democratic up or down vote. But it won't get it. (Note: I do not neccesaruily believe this. the fillibuster and other delaying tactics are often the only weapon left in the arsenal of the minority to 'force' or at least pressure for compromise. In the current political environment, BOTH sides foster attitudes that make compromise pretty damkned unlikely. It's been this way for at least the past three presidential terms).

Thanked: 96Isnt that exactly what a debate is? One side expresses thier point then the opposing side argues thier counterpoint. Its like walking into a thread and saying you dislike the posters point of view and then hanging around and complaining about it, without providing a view of your own on the topic of the thread.
As far your earlier remarks aimed at the OP, it is his thread and as such he has the right to make any points he wants(within forum guidlines) and you have the right to participate by opposing, agreeing or not.
Edit: Just realized I had done the same thing, soooo, if Brown wins i dont think it will mean much more than the majority of voters in mass chose to elect him, that does not neccesarilly mean though that the majority of people in mass chose brown or even agree with him and they could all just be able to tolerate him and dislike her and dont have any better choices. If he loses the opposite would be true of his opponent. It may make it a little harder to pass the healthcare bill, but then again he may just insert something he likes in to it and sign off on it saying it is a good bill and that may be what the voters of mass want, personally I really dont know much about either candidate, but I do trust that the voters in mass will choose the one they want and hopefully will be well informed on what each's principles are first. Imo, trying to find bigger meaning in each and every election doesnt really have much bearing on anything other than it gives us a chance to discuss what the bigger meaning may be. I would like to see a dem elected though, maybe even a few more so we can finally have a vote on this thing, imo, it will have the same effect the last time the dems were feeling the tyrannical power of having a very strong majority, anybody remember what happened after the "assualt weapon" ban? The american people may love there guns, i know i do, but I think we seem to love money even more, for better or worse, and once we feel the sting of paying for healthcare reform and all of big brothers other schemes hopefully we will come to our senses. But ive been thinking and hoping that would happen for quite a while now.
I may disagree with everything you are saying, but I will fight to the death for your right to do so. VoltaireLast edited by Jasongreat; 01-20-2010 at 12:36 AM.

OK, forgive me for addressing the original question. The comments around it were interesting, but hey, somebody's got to do it. It's hard to say what it will mean, given that in none of Brown's ads that I've seen (and living right next door, in New Hampshire, I've seen lots of them), really tell you what he stands for. He basically attacks Coakley for attacking him, actually stating that she won't talk about the issues. But neither does he! The only thing I can say with a little bit of certainty is that he's against the health care bill and he's anti-abortion. And I only know that because his opponent has said so!

In the end it doesn't matter who wins because the folks in this country are just a bunch of spoiled whiners who want what they want and demand it now. So if they throw out the Dems because they couldn't produce fast enough and the Republicans win big the same will happen to them the next time around.
Maybe we should all be thinking down the road when this country breaks up into 3 or 4 separate countries what we will call them. I'm for calling the N.E the Republic of Freedonia Har Har.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

What do I think it means if he takes the seat? Nothing. In the unlikely event of a Brown win, the Democrats already have plans to pass whatever it is they feel they can get away with. They don't care. This is Massachusetts, one of the most liberal states in the world. Just how "conservative" this Brown guy is will remain to be seen should he be elected. I'm pessimistic, to me all these Republicans are RINOs. Not a decent one in the bunch. Don't get me started on the Democrats. I'm a registered Independent.
America still hasn't learned to give a balance to both houses and not a super majority, i.e. the upstate New York Congressional races. In the rush to get Bush the hell out, we mistakenly put far too many Democrats in. Even I, a right wing nut job, don't want all these RINOs. Conservative Democrats are ok in my book, as well as Republicans. Show me a decent politician and I'll show you a crook.
There's still plans, even if Brown manages to win, on giving amnesty to illegals, cap and trade.......all the good leftist stuff that they plan on cramming down our throats. That one vote may give them filibuster power, but in the end, even if the writing on the wall is there, and even if they know they're going to lose their seats, they know that there will be no way that enough Republicans can possibly be elected to reverse any legislation that they approve of between now and January 2011.
My two cents. Great thread topic, J!
