    Default Can someone tell me...

...what politics have to do with a shaving forum? Honestly, there are much better places to discuss and definitely much better places to get involved with your political affiliations.

    That is all

    Thumbs up

I agree 150% if that's even possible, and thank you for saying it.

What do canoeing in San Diego, movies, or Domino's pizza have to do with a shaving forum?

I'm new here, and have only ever made one post to a political thread, but it seems to me that the point of a "conversation" area is to have conversations; whether those conversations are about politics or pizza.

If the conversation at hand doesn't appeal to you, move on to a different thread.

At Ye Olde Barbershoppe of bygone eras, do you think they sat around and discussed razors/shave soaps 100% of the time?

    No way!

They slung the BS and argued about politics, women, religion, cigars, booze, and more politics!

EDIT: And they also discussed whether allowing a razor to "rest" helped re-align the "fin"....

To follow up on that...I know that the VAST majority of the people here are gentlemen with manners. We disagree, sometimes so much that the smart move for me is to not get started. BUT...we almost universally do so with respect for each other, if not for the positions that we may take on opposite sides of some pretty weighty issues.

Obviously you live where you can have these discussions at your leisure, but still you have to understand that this forum is brought together by one thing, which is Shaving, so you actually have a fantastic mix of people from all over the world in with whom to discuss "LIFE" The opportunity to really understand someone else's opinion that you would never meet IRL is amazing...
So as long as we try and keep it civil, I think we all might learn something ...

ps: At one time I thought the same as you and asked that the Conversation forum be shut down period....

Indeed I do live where I can have any discussion I choose - just like everyone else. I do understand why this forum is here - shaving. Having traveled the world for many years in this Country's service I have discussed "LIFE" and gained many more perspectives on it than your average person.

I don't know why you would want the Conversation forum shutdown, I was only asking what politiks had to do with shaving - seems that is the majority of postings on the shaving forum lately.

I just remember someone saying to me to not discuss politics or religion with people your not very familiar with, I think the same applies here. Such things can divide people who even share a common bond such as straight razor shaving.

In general, conversation is ok. It is sometimes healthy to hear opinions of different views, or even from the other side of the world.
Most of people here try to keep it friendly, and not take any opposite opinion as a personal attack. Some need to vent some bad air out maybe too.
I don't understand the idea of insulting or trying to have the last word whatever it costs.

Agree that shaving has nothing to do with politics. I am involved in few other discussion forums, and SRP's conversation is most 'gentlemanny' of all these. Trying to keep my part to keep it that way and not to get provoked.
