    Default Ouch! Achilles tendon rupture...

    Yesterday I was playing floorball and then suddenly....SNAP! Achilles tendon rupture....

    So now my leg is in cast, and tomorrow it's a trip to the surgeon and 2 weeks of casted leg.........

    And I've read that the rehab is quite long and hard so does anyone here have any good advice?

    Are you open to alternative medecine ? As a retired Homeopath I can say there would be at least potential for an increased speed in recovery with the right remedies. Sorry, I won't prescribe over the internet. It is an in depth consultation process even for common injuries. Routine prescribing often results in failure. Wish you a speedy recovery.

    Ow! Sorry to hear about the injury. Having had a couple of joint injuries myself (nothing anywhere near as dramatic as yours though - just a couple of severely sprained ankles and a bung hip from rugby) the best advice I can give you is to take it easy - don't push yourself to get back out there, rest and keep the weight off that ankle until the doctor tells you it's ready.
    Oh, and when you get to the point of going to the physio to regain the use of your ankle, don't take it easy on the exercises they give you - I didn't, and I now have ongoing ankle problems as a resutl of not getting my ankles sorted before getting back out there for hockey.
    Hope you're back on your feet fairly soon. By the way, what the heck is floorball?

    Pretty fast paced game, puts a lot of stress on the ankles and knees, hence my injury I suppose..

    Make sure the surgeon is a good one. Likewise the physiotherapist, do what he/she tells you. Ask what is the maximum you can do and do it. Keep fit in any way you can that avoids putting strain on the injury. The only thing that comes to mind is swimming. I spent six months in a cast from hip to neck. When it came off I swam nearly every day for the next 2 yrs to give myself a base of fitness to start running and sport again.
    You need a good sense of humour. Hopefully age is on your side.

    If you can find a surgeon that does surgeries for a pro or college team.
    A surgeon like that will have a lot of experience with an injury like yours.

    Ouch! I wish you a speedy recovery!

    In terms of advice, the only thing I can say is follow the physio's recommendations, and use any time you have at home recuperating to scour the 'Bay for vintage straights!

    Here in Sweden we don't usually chose surgeon, we tend to rely on the public health system. But that is normally not a problem since it's of good quality. (Not every Swede thinks so, but I do.) So I'm not worried there.

    Swimming you say? Excellent! I really enjoy swimming, tries to swim about 4 km a week, so as soon as I get permission from the physiotherapist I will continue doing that. Heck, I can even swim more, If I'm allowed!!

    A little sideeffect I have discovered: Straight shaving standing on one leg is quite much harder to perform!!!!!

    Look on the bright side, shaving standing on one leg will improve core stability and proprioception. Unfortunately, it would be best if you could change to the other leg every so often.
