What I found so arrogant in his speech last night was his "with all due respect for the separation of powers in the branches of government, you, the Supreme Court of the US, are a bunch of Morons."

Now that is not a direct quote, but a very good paraphrase. Clearly, that's not the only thing I found arrogant about the speech last night, but it definitely tops the list.

    What was arrogant about it?

Do you think it was a good idea that the Supreme Court gave corporations so much power?

Seriously? what was arrogant about it? Don't blame the current Court for giving the "corporations so much power." Blame our founding fathers and the Constitution. It is called freedom of speech. Further, chiding the Supreme Court Justices like they are children, and having your cronies all stand and jeer the third branch of our Government, was just completely out of line. It was even more out of line when Joe Wilson spoke the truth, when he told the President "YOU LIE!"

And so that we do not go off topic on this thread, have you read the decision? I will not discuss this decision with you until you do so, and such a discussion should be in a separate thread. not this one. This one deals with the state of the union address, and not this Supreme Court decision.

Ok I guess you can't answer the question.

No it wasn't. It doesn't even compare.

Well I think it's pretty clear now you'll find fault in anything Obama does or says.

Apparanetly you missed this part of my post: "chiding the Supreme Court Justices like they are children, and having your cronies all stand and jeer the third branch of our Government, was just completely out of line. " This is what makes it so arrogant. He put himself above the Constitutional third branch of our Government, and speaks to them like they are two year-olds. Obama has got ego to spare.

It is equally as clear that you have drunk the Kook-Aid, and will follow Obama to your, and your children's, deaths. There is nothing that Obama could do or say in which you would find any fault.

I didn't miss it...that's not what happened. He didn't treat them like children. And he didn't make anyone stand up and cheer for him. There is nothing wrong with giving his opinion that they made a bad decision.

Awww don't get upset. No need to infer I'm a kook. I realize you don't have anything to back up your statements but please try to keep it civil.

Honestly I think he was the best of the bunch in the last election but to quote Waiting: "it's like being the smartest kid with [a low IQ]".

I personally think that his heart is in the right place (as evidenced by how he seems to work on issues of moral importance even though the majority of the country don't want them) he has zippo zilch nada nix experience. In his speeches he just recites things that make people happy. Last night within the space of ten minutes he said "We are giving tax cuts to 95% of America" and "Our new insurance program will cost $100 billion to start but will pay off eventually" and "We will lower the deficit 1 trillion in the next year" and and and and and.

Basically, he made A LOT of promises. Lots of expensive plans (healthcare etc) that might pay off in twenty years, but will cost now (which is okay); apparent tax cuts, and spending freezes. This is like your dad saying to you: "we're gonna buy a new house, I'm gonna raise your allowance, and its not gonna cost us anything! Plus we're gonna lower our family debt!" It just doesn't add up. I just wish he would say, here are my programs. They're gonna cost a shit ton. Now pay taxes. Thats what Clinton did, and Clinton was by far and away the most fiscally responsible president.

Since I was the OP I have to say that after listening to commentary on last night's address this morning on the Diane Rehm show I was mistaken in characterizing the republicans as 'sitting on their hands'. They did stand and applaud at various times during the speech.

Also, I voted for Obama and if the election were held tomorrow with the same choices I would do so again without batting an eye. That said, I am not at all happy with his governance since the election.

Seems to me that he represents Wall St and big business rather than most Americans. As for the democrats.... I was a democrat all of my life but finally changed my voters card to "no party affiliation".

When the republicans were in the majority the dems were spineless wimps. Daschle and his ilk don't represent the people. They are wolves in sheep's clothing AFAIC. Republicans never represented working people and never will. The democrats used to but money .... the love of money being the root of all evil they succumbed to it.

The back room deals to pass this travesty of a health care bill that will enrich the insurance companies even more has been disgusting to see. There is no doubt in my mind that the elections coming up in November will see a republican majority return. Six of the eight years of the republican majority almost buried us. That may be the coup de grau if they get it again but the dems are as bad. We are in sad shape.

Since all of them are at least millionaires what do they know about struggling to pay the bills and keep a roof over your head ? About not having health care or having to work two jobs to barely make it ? It appears to me that it is a government of big business, for big business and by big business. Basically always has been though.
    End of rant.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I did the same thing. Used to be a democrat...now no affiliation.

As for the rest of your post. I agree with you.
