Thanked: 259why should the taxpayers pay for drug rehab for someone whose choice was to take drugs in the first place.
i have no pity for drug addicts, alcoholics. they made that choice. i choose not to use drugs or be an alcoholic, do i get paid for that? NO, but you want me to pay for someone else to get rehab. i could care less about that crowd. let them find the way out, just like they found the way in..

Thanked: 259it would have been a benefit to society if they had not became addicts
and got a job. they made the choice, not i. we as taxpayers should not have to pay for their rehab time and time again.
why would you bring JESUS into this? we are the taxpayer not he.
JESUS said "he helps those who help themselves" so they can quit the drugs and get a job and quit being a burden on the rest of us!!!

Thanked: 19Right so you can't refute what I said. It's a benefit to society to help drug addicts. I don't know why you wouldn't want your tax money to go to the benefit of society.
So you think all addicts don't work?
I guess you forget the claim of why Jesus came to earth. Didn't he come to absolve you of your sins? If he had the attitude you display here you wouldn't have the belief that you'd be saved.
You said this:
You found your way in to sin so jesus should have just let you find your own way out. Right?

Thanked: 259again i ask why your are bringing religion to this debate? we are talking about overspending money that is not there.
going to rehab is a good thing, just do not ask me to help pay for it.
i have no time to waste on paying for a choice that was made by addict in the first place.

Thanked: 19It's relevant to the discussion. You asked why we should fund rehab.
Don't you claim to be Christian? Don't you think the way Jesus would act is relevant to you?
Right just like Jesus shouldn't have wasted his time sacrificing himself to save you since it was your choice to sin.

Thanked: 259who said i was a sinner?
furthermore we are all born of sin, we did not choose that. addicts choose to do so.
i still submit that this debate is about overspending what we do not have. i do not care what program it is or for who it is for. until we balance the books we should spend on nothing except the very basics of needs for the country to survive. i am sorry if that is harsh, but it needs to be so until we as a nation can afford it..
we cannot keep writing checks that we can't cash and endanger our very existence as a nation

Being addicted to a substance and having a job aren't mutually exclusive. I understand that there are drug addicts who are felonious meth heads, but there are also people addicted to painkillers (Rush Limbaugh?) and alcohol. Your avatar is quite fitting for this discussion.
Going to rehab is helping yourself. Boy wouldn't government be awesome if we could pick and choose where our tax dollars went? It's their choice, not mine! If everyone lead the same great life I did, we wouldn't have any problems!

Thanked: 259what does my avatar have to do with the topic? just another useless personal attack when you have nothing to add to the debate.
can you stick to the debate without trying to attack someone personally or is that too much for you to comprehend?
going to rehab and paying for it oneself is helpful. asking others to pay for your choice to be a drug addict is not helpful.

Your avatar is Dean Martin SMOKING A CIGARETTE and I mentioned it while discussing drug addiction. Nicotine is one of the hardest addictions to break. Dean Martin died of lung cancer. That is the relevance.
This isn't personal -- if I ever met you I'd happily offer to buy you a drink over a discussion about anything but politics.
