Thread: Epic overuse/misuse of words

This has so far been 11 pages of hillarity.

ok so here's some that irritate me, just because the lack of proper spelling is nothing more than pure laziness.

lyk, kewl. gr8, luv, naw(which may just be Scottish), av(also possibly just in Scotland meaning I've), yeh, alryt, thnx, iz. Ok you all see where I am heading with this.

It irritates the hell out of me, and I have seen this type of thing on letters applying for jobs and the likes.

1. Exspecially. There is no "x" in that word, people. Also see; Expresso.

2. Lie / Lay. To lie is to recline, to lay is to place. "I'm going to lie down"; "I'm going to lay my body down."

3. "Graft" when refering to a graphical representation of data.

4. Threads that are way off topic

5. Finally, the word "Porsche" has two syllables.

Regarding misuse of words, in my line of work the word "sterile" is rather critical. I always know when I'm dealing with a stupid person when I hear them refer to something being "more sterile" or "less sterile." That's all I need to lose all respect for them.

Also, I'll certainly second the concept of "I could care less" as being ridiculous. The correct phrase is "I couldn't care less." If you could care less, then you don't care as little as you possibly could, so that means that you do in fact care a little, so what are you complaining about?

This is my favorite thread guys. I waited tables a long time ago, and waiters would complain about being "double sat" or "She Sat me with two old people." Seated- Seated -Seated.
