Thanked: 11I was smacked on the bum when i would a kid, sometimes they used a wooden spoon. But they never made me bruised or bleed or anything and never on the face, it was normally bum or hand. Often the fear of getting smacked was more affective than actually getting hit. But getting smacked was good for discipline. I think kids should be smacked, but as people said, not beaten or hit excessively.
Often kids dont understand reason and stuff, so verbally getting angry isnt normally affective. So things like banning them from tv or grounding them or maybe slacking them on the bum work well.
Thats my opinion anyway

A friend of mine puts it best:
swing from the elbow don't punch from the shoulder.

A 7-year-old girl died in February in Oroville, Calif., and her 11- year-old sister was hospitalized needing critical care, after being "lovingly" beaten by their adoptive parents, Kevin and Elizabeth Schatz, who are followers of religion-based corporal punishment. The Schatzes, as recommended by a fundamentalist Web site, had whipped the girls with quarter-inch-wide plumbers' rubber tubing, to supposedly make the children "happier" and "more obedient to God." Criminal charges against the couple were pending at press time. [Chico Enterprise-Record (Chico, Calif.), 2-12-10]
