Thanked: 235Revision of hat etiquette
Because we seem to have a small community of hat wearers here http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...-new-post.html , I thought it would be good to talk about hat etiquette.
As a new hat wearer I did a little research on the scope of hat etiquette. Some of it makes sense but some of the hat etiquette seems a bit daunting. I understand that it is just not on to eat in a restaurant with your hat on and that it must be doffed or removed during the playing of a national anthem.
But what I'm concerned about is the idea that I should remove my hat when I meet a lady on the street. This would have been fine for the early 20th century when most ladies would be inside cooking for their husbands. But today there are just as many ladies out and about as there are men.
So the etiquette rule I would like to change is that it is no longer necessary for a gentleman to remove his hat when in the presence of a lady when both are outside.
What other rules of hat etiquette would you like to change, get rid of, or re-enforce?
