    Default Come on fellas

I haven't been posting much here recently, no particular reason. I have read a few threads to get to the end and find them 'closed for a few days to let every one cool off'

That used to be very uncommon here, even with equally difficult and delicate subjects.

I am not sure what has changed, but perhaps a little reflection on the manor in which we talk to each other on here will help. We don't need threads to be closed - we can and have spoken to each other as adults for long enough not to get riled up over every single social or political issue that arises.

Yeah! I couldn't agree more! It's those damned Republican conservatives. They are constantly being disagreeable.

Agreed! We have discussed many of the most contentious issues around here. I've almsot never seen it get to the point where civility is abandoned. Let's keep talking to each other with respect...even if we don't respect the POSITION we might take.

Sorry, but I have to disagree

It's definitely not about where you come from, it's simply to do with the attitude you take when you sit down at your desk and log into this forum.

People need to be aware that this is a community which does not encourage or respect mud slinging. This needs to be perpetuated, especially, by members who have been here a while and are showing the new guys how it's done. The debates here are open to any one, especially new members with new attitudes, but there are a set of implied rules.

This thread is intended as a gentle reminder, and I hope it strikes a chord with people and they think twice next time.

I totally agree! People can disagree, and strongly, but theres no need to descend to personal remarks or mud slinging.

    Well said!

Honestly the biggest thing that has changed is that this country hasn't been this polarized politically since 1776 so things are getting a bit heated all around.

Its nearly impossible to deal civily with those damn torries who support the king and his unfair policies, freaking loyalists I tell ya!.

From what I've read in 1861 the country was way more polarized than it is now.

Well said, gregs656. My views on political and social views often differ dramatically from many of the comments I see on here. I sometimes feel like I've wandered into the wrong camp when I read some of the opinions expressed. But I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't deteriorate to the point of name calling and personal attacks, as I'm sorry to say, I've seen happen from time to time. I love a good debate or an intellectual argument. The mudslinging, I think we can all do without.

I am surprised, intrigued and sort of sad. I have yet to come across anything like this.. and would not really expect to around here. Is this strictly an American thing? Considering the increasingly globalised world we all inhabit and contribute to, we are all ultimately at each others arms length, literally. Difficult sometimes, of course, but this forum proves that it's highly rewarding. Differences in values and opinion are inevitable but should be met with respect, common decency and gentlemanly behaviour and as far as I can see, around here most often is. This is why I hang out here.

    Thanks guys

    Mykel
