I think that can be mostly attributed to the availability of information; between 24/7 news channels, the Internet, cameras and cell phones, everything our public officials do become scrutinized and argued about.

Thing is though, I don't really want the mods to be on our tails, they shouldn't need to be particularly active in an enforcement role in the conversation, we know people here can self regulate, they just need to be reminded the rules of the game every now and then.

Yep--another way of saying that is, there are some ways in which we don't really want to be in step with our society. Being into straight razors, we ought to be used to that concept.
