    Default Spongebob subliminal messaging...

My kids are very rambunctious during the early evenings to the point that nothing usually gets done unless I turn on that Spongebob Squarepants show. It's a catch-22 isn't it...kids running amok or TV programming that drives you nuts! I am convinced that there are subliminal messages throughout this program that urges adults to cut their own throats!

I love Spongebob Squarepants. I watched it before I had kids (only on occasion) , and it's easily my favorite of the shows that my kids watch (and it ain't close). It's not something that I would watch without them, but if I'm going to watch a kids' show, it's that one

I watched it once with the grandkids, I think this is some kind of perverse CIA program. Give me the good ol' Looney Tunes any day!

Bond with your children and watch....

PG movies imply parental guidance like Yes you can go
to the show only if you give me a short summary of why
the movie is PG. The reverse is more expensive watch
the movie and then send them out with guidance.

    Cartoons are no different.

i.e. you as a parent can voice short precise subliminal messages
and teach morals, habits, values... You can ask what the
show was about. Your can have a conversation about it, albeit
    a short conversation.

Now the one that gets me is Teletubies. I fell asleep in front
of the TV in French speaking Switzerland and woke up to Teletubies
in French -- for 20 min as the fog cleared it made perfect sense
at least as much as it does in English (I do not speak French).

Some little girl learned the heimlich from watching it and saved her friend.

My daughter is 10 and still watches it on occasion.. so of those episodes can actually be funny.

Yeah, what happened to the ole' Looney Tunes cartoons? I used to watch Rolf Harris's cartoon time all the time when I was younger and I've still got most of them on tape..!

Bugs (as Roosevelt): "I speak softly, but I carry a big stick!"
Yosemite Sam: "Oh yeah? Well, I speaks LOUD and a I carry a BIGGER stick! And I use it too!"

    *Smack*

Man, such a great set of cartoons. And Mel Blanc doing all the voices as well, what a talented guy..!

I was a baby of the transition period... So, fortunately, I got Buggs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd. Thank God. Between Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner and Coyote, and Buggs and Daffy, I got my violent, brain melting fix... I also got GOOD "modern" cartoons. Rocco's Modern Life (youtube this... The sheer volume of innuendo squeezed into it is impressive), Angry Beavers, Dexter's Lab... Cartoons that were still mildly improper, not politically correct, and could show someone punch someone else...

Nowadays though.. Where did all the funny gratuitous violence go!?
