Living overseas, I'm well acquainted with having to deal with absurd shipping charges. Fortunately for me, most of the time it hasn't been intentional and the sellers have willingly adjusted their fees to no more than the actual cost of shipping. On the other hand, there appears to be a growing number of sellers who are intentionally charging outrageous shipping charges as a way of "fee avoidance" and should be reported to ebay.

Bill, did you contact the seller? This person seems to be brand new to ebay (0 transactions indicated), so perhaps he/she has screwed up the USPS calculator for this particular item (or the postal calculator is just wrong!). Yeah, nice looking razor....

I too had to pass a few nice looking blades when the sellers quoted $13, $15, $18 for shipping to Canada from the US. Even when I told them I want no frills, no insurance and I did not care if it is shipped by crippled donkey, just keep the costs low.

Others charge $7.50 which is reasonable for low cost items. Guess it takes all kinds to make the World go round.

Germany is worse, I had someone quote $40 for shipping by DHL, no thanks, I can wait for slow parcel post.

I just bought D-Duck on ebay and when I used the sellers "calculator" it said $28 US shipping to Canada! I bought it anyways and told them (before I paid) how I want it shipped (USPS) insured and it ended up costing $8.00
But it is too bad some people try to add "shipping & handling" and ruin an otherwise good deal.

This is one thing that I watch before I bid. I got burnt with $20 shipping and HANDLING within the US for post office delivery. I check because this can make a good deal a not so good one.

I have been burnt a few times on that too by not looking at shipping first. Some are just newbies to ebay and those that use a commercial "Pack Nas Ship" type franchise. You can expect shipping costs to be 3x the actual as the franchise needs to make money too.

International becomes a tough one. Global Priority is reasonable but cannot be insured. Airmail Parcel Post is the only one that carries insurance but a 1 pound box will be close to $20 or even more depending where it is being sent.
With my customers I always give a choice but explain the insurance issue up front and let them choose.

On general eBay sales, outside the "family" here I will only do Airmail Parcel Post to protect myself. There are buyers who say no insurance to save a few $$ and when the package goes astry do a charge back thru Paypal and the seller looses.

Always check shipping first!
