Arab run ports in the US
What is your opinion of having other countries manage US ports?

I am very opposed to any other country running US ports.
What are those responsible for this thinking? Wonder
if a few fat envelopes influenced their thinking.

I am surprised no US company has jumped up saying that they could do it. There has to be good money in it.

I would be surprised if ther wasn't. Who knows what is going
on. This whole country is corrupt, from the Courthouse to the
White House, regardless of the political party in control.
I know, West Virginia politicans lead the pack. These clowns
would line up for free hemmoroids if someone was passing
them out.

Thanked: 324It's not an issue of Arabs running our ports. It's an issue of an Arab owned company running our ports and as much as politicians are trying to make that sound like the same thing; it's not. Nor are all Arabs alike, which is why you hear "arab run ports" a lot more than you hear "Dubai, owned by UAE".
Except for sole proprietorships, corporations have their own legal entity and are, in fact, their own entity in many respects. While the UAE may own it, you may be sure that there aren't any Emir's pushing the buttons on a daily basis at corporate headquarters.
It's not surprising at all to me that there aren't any US companies holding up their hands to do this. Most aren't up to the task and don't have the experience, equipment, skill sets or service charges capable of being considered a good faith offer.
Maybe the democrats would be more happy if Haliburton took over the contract?

Thanked: 0I don't necessarily disagree with your sentiments but you need to beare in mind that this is not a new phemonenon. Foreign interests have been operating and managing (some not all) US ports for more than 20 years. Generally, they do it well and they do it cheaper than most US firms can or are willing to do. For better or worse, that's the definition of capitalism. Business (and profits) flow to the firms that can deliver good quality products, at the best prices (ask Honda). Of course security must be a consideration, but in the instance of port management, port security is the responsibility of a separate group and has plenty of oversight. Assuming the Arab interests in this situation are as greedy as their American business counterparts, then greed will almost certainly win out over nationalist interests. Just my 2 cents

CNN is reporting that the company is going to sell of the US portion of the contract to another investor.
I'd like for there to be an American company managing American ports, but thus far I haven't heard one step up to the plate.
