I've said from the start that Germany is going all the way!
Or more likely the son of the Russian linesman from the 1966 England-Germany final! (Even from this painful perspective of an England fan, there is a delicious irony about the disallowed goal.)

I was reading the news and it appears the Nigerian president has suspended the national team from competing on an international level for the next two years for a poor World Cup performance.
It could be worse.
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."
(Bill Shankly)
Congrats Netherlands for great victory.
This game really did show that the one with the stronger mind wins. Brazil seemed to collapse and their game broke into peaces after Netherlands (Brazils own) goal. Netherlands played like a chess genius while Brazil had problems with their nerves. What a happy day this is.
Now waiting for Germany to eat Argentinian steak tomorrow.
Brazil always takes it for granted they are going to win. I'm happy for the Dutch. They deserve it. No fancy schamncy Brazilian ballet tricks but true rough hardcore soccer. Any European team that gets to move forward is a winner. That's where soccer belongs.
Well it was a great game, particularly seeing the orange fight back after conceding that first goal. Some chippiness, some dives, but overall some good play. The red card was justified for a moment of stupidity.
The own goal could have easily been given to Sneijder. I'd chalk it up as an accidental goal as it was a planned cross that barely got deflected. It looked to me like Melo was going to head it away but got clocked by Julio Cesar enough to deflect the ball back.
Robinho's goal was as brilliant as it was easy given the great pass and poor defensive positioning. The Netherlands' corner goal was a beautiful collaboration of headers.
I went to work early today so that I could catch this game in its entirety during lunch and I'm glad I got to do so now. Seeing the Dutch come back from that early goal -- especially against Brazil -- was a beautiful thing. I hope the Argentina/Germany match is just as compelling!
Wow!
Watched the second game on a stream at work and bolted out of there in extra time when it looked like a PK finish.
Heard the end of overtime on the radio and caught all the PKs at the house. I was pulling for Uruguay mostly to avenge the USA's exit, but I wouldn't wish that type of exit on anyone.
To miss a PK on the last play is painful, but add on their captain missing another in the shootout only to be saved by a horrible Uruguay shot, and lastly a young Ghanaian misses his PK and the team is out. That is the definition of heartache!
It was a great game from both teams but the last moments of extra time was a huge drama. I think that Gyan of Ghana will remember for the rest of his life that unfortunate miss on the last second of the ET.
It was all the same to me who won this game, as both teams played well and from both it was a sort of a victory to get this far, but penalty kick finish is too cruel ending. Great game afterall. Real drama.
Legendary stuff that will be remembered and talked about for years to come in the respective countries.
Drama and controversy. This match had it all. Long live "the beautiful game".
This is true at least for 5 Brazil fans from Bangladesh who didn't want to live no more after seeing Netherlands beat Brazil
Muahahahaha...Argentina got a whooping beating. Another European team moves forward. Deutschland Über Alles!!!
Somewhat of a boring ending competitively, but exciting if you're German. Argentina had a few chances and they all ended either with too many passes or uninspired shots. Germany was clearly the better team and they opened the floodgates at the end. If Spain wins later today then we'll have a rematch of Euro '08.
When group play started it was all about Messi, Ronaldo, Robinho and Rooney. Now the likes of Klose, Sneijder, Villa and Forlan are taking center stage trying to become heroes for their respective countries.
yeah i think it will be a rematch, that was an absolute schooling by the young german team.
Another dramatic game with two stopped PKs! Even the lone goal by David Villa had to hit both posts before crossing the line.
Germany vs. Spain on Wednesday in a rematch of the Euro '08 final. Looking forward to it. Go España!
Three, eh two PK's within a minute goes down to history as delicacy that can't be seen too often. I was little surprised about Spaniards. Their attack that ended up in David Villas goal was pure art, but if German can hold Villa from taking balls then Spain will be in big trouble.
I still believe that there will be Netherlands and Germany in the finals. Such a dream come true.
Well I could only watch the BBC game cast today but the Netherlands are in the final. Looked like it was going to be a runaway at the end but Uruguay made it close in extra time.
I'm hoping that they get to play Spain!
On paper that should be a great game but, with the Spanish having problems working the ball through the final third to goal at the moment and the Netherlands well capable of exploiting that and stifling their creativity in that area, I find myself hoping for a replay of the 1974 final.
Watchable game yesterday, Uruguay put up much more of a fight than I thought they would.
I'm a big Germany fan, but besides that, I've been watching all the games and Germany, I think, has been playing the best out of all teams. They will miss 13 Muller against Spain today. I think Germany's passing game and their patience will beat Spain on the counter attack today. I'm ditching work to watch this. Gonna be a great match.
Wow what a game was GErmany vs Spain.
what do you guys think who will win the cup?
i take NETHERLANDS- HOLLAND.
That was a lovely game. Here's to an even even better final:beer1:.
Congrats Spain for getting it to finals, for the first time in history. I was for Germany (bought some German beer and bratwust earlier today), but their game was far too passive, specially on the first half; Spain was just so much better. Puyols goal was tremendous, such an example of a strong mind.
Now there is two finalist that have never made this far before. I expect the perfect game. In the beginning of the games my thumbs were up for Netherlands and Germany, but Spanish game was so beautiful today so i am not sure anymore.
Now i believe that Germany will eat Uruguay next saturday so it will be top three scores to Europe. Not so bad.
I couldn't agree more. It just felt like Germany was content to defend and try to score on a counter. They had a few chances, but not much to really bother the keeper. Spain, on the other hand, had many chances and either couldn't capitalize or were thwarted by the German defense. Torres could have gotten his first goal this Cup if Pedro had just passed!
Puyol's goal was impressive. From the second that play started you could tell he was going to hit it. He got a nice running start and just leapt into the ball.
I'm happy with whatever happens. I root for Spain only because I loved visiting Barcelona, but it will be nice to see a first-time winner. I expect Germany to take out their anger on Uruguay.
I'm glad this was a great game. Good sportsmanship throughout, surprisingly few penalties (I think no cards, either), and an overall well-officiated match. There were a few strong challenges in each team's box and the ref pretty much said to play on. In the US we usually applaud referees for "no calls" on 50/50 plays that would affect the outcome, and I think these were in-line with that philosophy.
Can't wait for the final!
My daughter plays soccer at the local city team and she is very familiar with the soccer statistics. Now there's an Argentinian curse, she said before the game. I was for Germany but she said i shouldn't. Every team in history that has dropped Argentina has as well lost in their following game. Amazing. There's a strong curse indeed.
It is no wonder that Germany lost their game. They never had changes at all:
This dude was not on their side
Well, looks like Spain wins it this weekend!
YouTube - Octopus Paul - Netherlands vs. Spain
Sucks that Germany lost but well played by spain.
I hope that they at least win the 3rd place match tomorrow.
But if they do I want klose to score so he can at least tie the world cup scoring record.
Go Chile!
oops
Go Brasil!
oops
Go Argentina!
oops
Go Uraguay!
oops
Go Spain!
Does this mean Netherlands is destined to win?
