What a Maroon!
So,
I don't hone for other people generally but every once in a while if someone is my area and needs an edge I'll meet with them and knock it out.
Such is the case today when a member here pm'd me and said he had a wapi that needed sharp and I did the deed.
The razor had a small ding that needed a lot of attention on the 500 then I took it through setting the bevel which meant honing around a slight warp toward the heel.
I got the razor shave-ready and went to the pasted strop and finish strops and then the test shave.
In the middle of the effing test shave I switch my grip up and firmly plant my thumb onto the heal which I had so much trouble getting sharp.
I bled like a liberal's heart during a public radio fund drive.
Here I am showing this guy how to shave and then I start flinging blood all over the shave den.
Ahhh, well.
Humble is as humble does...

Thanked: 13245Well Brother I gotta admit that I did the exact same thing about 3 years ago, on the heel of a Wapi, when I went to strop it up I put my thumb down right on the heel and sliced it nice too...
Now I gotta say I have never done this on any of the other thousands of razors I have honed and stropped... So by Glen rules, this obviously means that we are not "Maroons" there must be a design flaw in the Wapi heel... That is my story, and I'm sticking to it...

That is the best way to teach somebody. Life practice. you missed blood will come out. Students will never forget that.

Definitely an advanced TPT technique.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Personally, I never tried the hanging thumb test because I never had anyone to properly teach me. I better visit the G-man or Mr. Robert so I can learn what's what...
BTW that red stuff is just natural paste. Especially great on horsehide strops.
