150 years ago, in line with family tradition, I'd likely be Vanner Trotting, a musician, or dealing in horses.

I would like to think I'd still aspire to be a writer, and then have the chance to meet some of the greats of literature that were alive at the time.

150 years ago Missouri had already been fighting the Civil War with Kansas for 5 years, it would be another year before the rest of the country joined us, the 2 largest armies on the face of the earth at the time made up of fellow country men, with over 500,000 fatalities by the end of the war, the prospects look bleak.

If you are history buff or into the American Civil War a good read is "In Deadly Earnest" by Phillip Gottschalk.

Hmmm... that's 1860. With my current age of 58, that would put my birth year at 1802. Given the life-expectancies in those days, the location (Zatslav, in the Ukraine), the fact of my family having been Orthodox Jews, and the "national sport" of pogroms, I'd probably be dead.

    Thanks for asking.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

I'd have lived in a cabin in the woods, provided for myself, and stayed away from people.
That's what I'm going to do when I retire.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

For all of my adult life, I've had vague memories of serving on a square rigged sailing vessel. I know I thrived in that environment.

It isn't what I would have done 150 years ago; it's what I did do.
    Namaste,

Not to steer the thread off topic, but is it non-fiction or historical novel?

    Nonfiction well researched and written.
